French games maker Gameloft released a new racing game, Asphalt Overdrive, onto the App Store Thursday. Available for the iPhone and iPad on a free-to-play basis, the retro-styled racing title files as the first spinoff in the award-winning Asphalt franchise.
Set in a “new '80s” version of California, the game features an intense racing experience which challenges players to outsmart and outrun the cops.

A new exploit in the Bash command shell found in many versions of Unix, including Apple's OS X desktop operating system, makes Mac computers vulnerable to so-called 'Shell Shock' attacks, security researchers at RedHat discovered Thursday.
Though the exploit lets attackers run malicious scripts remotely, most people are not at risk unless they've manually allowed SSH access from remote connections or a web server running server side scripting.

Apple issued a support document Wednesday night detailing a "workaround" on how to revert back to iOS 8 for those users that were affected by the release of iOS 8.0.1 earlier in the day, an update which incapacitated iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices.
Besides providing instructions on how to downgrade to iOS 8, the company noted that it is "preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it's ready in the next few days."

Touch ID in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has improved, but it's still vulnerable to attack according to Lookout Mobile Security researcher Marc Rogers. Rogers says that the same fake fingerprint hack he used to bypass Touch ID on the iPhone 5s works flawlessly on the new handsets.
The improvement comes in the form of better accuracy, thanks to its higher resolution scanner, which Rogers has found makes it harder to clone fingerprints. But, he says, Apple has done nothing to tighten up Touch ID's security in the iPhone 6, leaving the door open for determined hackers.

Owners of the Apple TV media-streaming box in the United Kingdom can now take advantage of both Entertainment Month Pass and Sky Movies Month Pass via an expanded NOW TV channel by UK home entertainment and communications provider Sky, technology website Engadget reported and Sky confirmed Wednesday.

Apple is most likely developing a Photos web app for iCloud.com to support desktop viewing of photos backed up in iCloud Photo Library using any computer with a standard-compliant web browser, according to a screenshot and other evidence discovered Wednesday in an Apple support document by Benjamin Mayo of 9to5Mac.

Ron Johnson, former Apple retail boss who left in 2011, is working to start a high-end, on-demand delivery service for gadgets and is hiring some former Apple employees to help, The Information reports.
