Google wants to one-up Apple’s iSpaceship with spectacular all-glass greenhouse-style Googleplex

Google on Friday submitted a proposal for a new campus to Mountain View's outgoing City Council and boy does the new building look spectacular. Renderings of the project, shared with the public, reveal the scope of Google's ambitiously conceived new project.

Seeking to redevelop part of its existing campus in North Bayshore, the new all-glass building could be more adaptable to a changing company, bring new life to the environment, save energy and create a sense of community with bike paths and space for local businesses.

BGR: iOS 8.2 launching next Monday

Apple is shooting to release iOS 8.2 for public consumption next Monday, March 2, 2015, “or the following week at the absolute latest,” according to BGR editor Jonathan Geller who spoke to sources in the know.

March 2 is a Monday, an unusual day for an iOS software update, but so is March 9 when Apple's “Spring Forward” media event is due, at which it's expected to talk Apple Watch specifics.

Moreover, as many as four betas of iOS 8.3 could be issued before that software update is ready for public release, the BGR founder and editor has learned. He mentioned earlier in the month that iOS 8.2 would be arriving some time in March, but didn't provide a timeframe.

Upcoming Pinner for Apple Watch to bring comprehensive bookmark discovery to your wrist

Following Apple’s announcement of the March 9 media event, UK-based developer Sam Oakley, the brains behind the Pinner for Pinboard iOS app, has shared a preview of his upcoming Apple Watch app.

Pinner for the iPhone and iPad is a delightful app for managing your Pinboard in bookmarks. Unlike many other Watch apps that only offer basic functionality of their iOS counterparts, Pinner for Apple Watch has a full-on set of easy to use features to help explore Pinterest bookmarks in compelling new ways.

Google Maps update adds Local Guides, detailed POI/venue info and more

The Internet giant Google on Friday issued a refresh to its native mapping application for the iPhone and iPad, adding Local Guides and a couple other nice-to-haves.

A global community of the top reviewers on Google, Local Guides now appear in Google Maps 4.3 for iOS.

You can also add transit directions to your calendar.

Search has been improved, too, with the ability to search for event information for select venues, nearby businesses based on their address and even retrieve fun facts about popular points of interest.

Tim Cook: Apple Watch will replace car keys, battery will last whole day and other tidbits

While making an unannounced visit to Apple's flagship retail store in London's Covent Garden, CEO Tim Cook dropped a few more hints about the upcoming wrist-worn device, expected to mark Apple's foray into wearables come this April.

As The Telegraph reported, Apple's chief executive said the Watch will replace your car keys, reward exercise, filter messages and more.

ABC News, which last year debuted its inaugural Apple TV channel in the U.S., is now available to owners of Apple's $99 set-top box in Germany, no subscription required. As first noted by German blog iFun.de, it includes live and recorded shows and local news broadcasts from major U.S. cities.

Poll: thinness vs. better iPhone battery

Handset vendors stubbornly insist on making their gadgets thinner at a time when consumers have largely been craving for better battery life.

Apple, like no other company, is a poster child for the industry's obsession with thinness. Whenever a new iPhone comes out, its slim profile gets prominently featured and communicated in ads.

This point was especially brought home for me in a recent Wall Street Journal article which argues that “survey after survey reveals there is one thing consumers wish manufacturers would change about their gadgets” and it's better battery life.

Our poll today deals with this issue as we seek to learn whether you, our loyal readers, would rather have a millimeter or two thicker device with a stronger battery or as thins a phone as possible with a good enough battery.

Ericsson intensifies legal pressure on Apple over patents, seeks iPhone sales ban

Following a $533 million loss in a lawsuit a small Texas-based company leveled against it over patent violation, Apple is now facing new legal challenges.

Friday, the Swedish telecommunications giant has unloaded legal barrage against the iPhone maker.

The move follows Apple's refusal to re-sign a global licensing contract with Ericsson in mid-January. Bloomberg noted that Apple had been paying royalties for Ericsson's patents related to mobile technologies, but the global license agreement expired last month and hasn't been renewed since.

Apple sued again by Smartflash following $533 million verdict

Following a $533 million verdict earlier this week, Apple has been sued by Smartflash, again, for claims it violates patents with devices that use iTunes software. The new lawsuit, filed by the Texas-based company on Wednesday, covers Apple's new devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad Air 2.

iWork for iCloud now available to everyone

Apple today removed the beta tag from its iWork for iCloud productivity suite, which it opened up to non-Apple device owners earlier this month. Now, anyone with a modern browser and an Apple ID can utilize the web-based office apps which include Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

As seen in the above screenshot, users who don't have an Apple ID can create one by following the "Create one now" link, regardless of whether or not they own a Mac or iOS device. All that's required is that they give their name, email address, date of birth and pick security questions.
