Apple to Open First Store in Alaska

Good news for the folks up in Alaska. The brand new Alaska Apple Store will be opening its doors to the cold air this Saturday at the 5th Avenue mall in Anchorage.

Although this might not be that exciting of news for the rest of us, it's still great to see that Apple is continuously expanding with an additional 4 store openings this Saturday...

Is There a Limit to What the Apple Store Will Allow?

Apple Stores are pretty famous for being cool with just about anything. From dancing in the store,  to even bringing your own pet, Apple usually allows you to do just about anything you want.

Comedian Mark Malkoff decided to put Apple to the test and see if there was a limit to what the Apple Store will allow you to do. In this short video, Mark gets a pizza delivered, has a romantic dinner, gets his iPhone fixed while dressed as Darth Vader, and finally, brings a goat in the store...

Fake Apple Stores in China Getting Shut Down

You may have heard about the fake Apple stores uncovered in Kunming, China. Essentially, unauthorized resellers were created identical replicas of Apple retail stores without Apple's permission. As you can see from the picture above, some of them couldn't get the company's name spelled correctly, though.

Now it seems that Chinese officials (and oddly enough not Apple) have gotten word of these fake Apple store operations, and two stores in Kunming, China have already been shut down. We're still waiting for Steve Jobs to pull out the big red button and nuke the rest of these stores off the map...

An Exclusive Look Inside Apple’s Smart Sign

Yesterday, I went to the Apple Store with a mission: to get an inside peek at what was behind Apple's own Smart Sign application. If you don't know what a Smart Sign is, it is an iPad with a special app that shows product specs.

This app can't be exited with the home button, it can only be closed with a secret gesture. I did some peeking around, and I found some interesting things.

Apple Hiring Extra Employees This August for iPhone 5 Launch

Hot on the heels of reports that Apple Retail UK has been recruiting new staff for an unknown event in the next couple months, new claims have surfaced that Apple is undergoing a similar recruitment drive in the United States.

According to MacRumors, Apple has, in the past, turned to ex-employees to fill the gaps created by staff holidays, and it isn't unknown for them to be used during big product launches, too.  Now, one such ex-employee says they have been asked to do just that for what is believed to be the launch of the next iPhone...

China is the Land of Fake iPhones and Fake… Apple Stores?

We all know that China is the land of fake iPhones and bootleg tech. One-third of the iPhones in China are jailbroken, and we've seen countless ripoffs and iPhone look-a-likes come from the Asia Pacific region.

But what about physical, brick and mortar ripoffs of the Apple store? Apparently, carbon copy clones of the Apple Store abound in China, and Apple has yet to do anything about them...

First! Someone’s Already in Line for the iPhone 5 [Updated]

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the next iPhone as much as the next guy. But this might be a little extreme. The UK's Metro Online is reporting that somebody is already in line for the iPhone 5.

Even though the device isn't expected for another 1-2 months, Rob Shoesmith has already set up camp outside a London Apple Store in anticipation of the new gadget. No he's not crazy, this is actually all part of his plan...

Apple Store iPad Display Gets Jailbroken [Video]

Comex's new exploit is easily the best jailbreaking tool ever developed. Not only is it much faster than previous methods, it's as easy to use as downloading an app.

Another reason JailbreakMe comes out on top is that you don't need a computer to run the software. Everything is done from the device. This creates an interesting dynamic for jailbreaking, because now you can do it almost anywhere. Even in an Apple Store...

Making Terroristic Threats Against Apple Will Never Help Fixing Your iPhone

Although I've typically had enjoyable experiences with Apple Store staff members, that doesn't seem to be the case for everybody. I've come across several stories where customers have left Apple Stores extremely upset with its employees.

One of the most interesting tales I've come across lately was featured in a recent TUAW article. If you haven't heard the story of Joe Lipari and his infamous Apple Store-Facebook-rant turned felony, you might want to keep reading...

Apple Stores Can Unlock AT&T iPhones at the Point of Sale

Earlier this month, Apple announced that it would finally be offering unlocked iPhone 4s in the U.S. Unlocking the iPhone has largely been a process of the jailbreak community for the past few years, so needless to say the news was surprising.

Since the announcement, a lot of folks have been wondering whether or not AT&T or Apple would be able to unlock previously owned devices. Well, 9to5Mac has just discovered that some Apple stores do indeed have the ability to unlock AT&T-branded iPhones...

AT&T Silent About Unlocking iPhone

For the first time in history, Apple is now offering factory unlocked iPhones in the U.S. If you walk into your local Apple store, or browse online, you can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4 for operation on any compatible carrier. These unlocked devices start at $649.

AT&T does not currently offer unlocked iPhones in the United States. AT&T has yet to state if it will offer unlocked iPhones in its stores, or if the GSM carrier will unlock previously purchased iPhones.
