Clorox Employees Prefer the iPhone By a Wide Margin

If this isn't telling about the state of the smart phone industry, I don't know what is. It's particularly bad news for the folks at RIM -- the company behind the BlackBerry brand.

Sensing that his employees were unsatisfied with their company issued BlackBerry smartphones, Clorox CIO Ralph Loura decided to give his employees a choice.

They could choose between three different smartphone brands: the iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone 7.

iOS Expected to Trail 30% Behind Android by Next Year

We reported a few days ago on IDC's claims that Windows Mobile OS market share would one day overtake iOS. Now Gartner, a world leader in information technology research, is making similar predictions. But they've got Google's Android OS on top by a long shot.

The numbers are quite staggering. The firm predicts that in 2011, smartphone sales will reach 468 million units worldwide. That would be about a 50% increase from the 300 million units that analysts believe shipped last year. Why is Gartner predicting Apple's smartphone will only snag 19% of that market?

Google Search Term “Tilt” Actually Tilts iPhone Search Results

Can Windows Phone 7 Overtake the iPhone?

For those who didn't know or can't remember back that far, Microsoft was once a major player in the mobile platform game. It was one of the first mobile operating systems to feature a touch screen (although it required a stylus). The Palm Treo and multiple Windows Mobile handsets actually ruled the smartphone market for quite some time.

Then came innovations from companies like BlackBerry and Apple, and Windows Mobile's aging design just couldn't keep up. Last year, after almost a decade, Microsoft unveiled a completely new mobile OS to the world.

Sprint Doesn’t Like AT&T’s Acquisition of T-Mobile, Sides With Google

Sprint, the nation's third largest wireless provider, is not happy about AT&T's acquisition of T-Mobile. Once AT&T and T-Mobile are officially merged, the only major players in the U.S. wireless space will be AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

The problem is, Sprint isn't that much of a "big player" anymore. The network has been falling behind the success of AT&T and Verizon (both of which sell the iPhone), and there isn't much traction left for Sprint to make a dent in AT&T and Verizon's market share.

AT&T iPhone 4 Beats Android 4G in Upload Test

4G Android handset users are pretty upset over their not so 4G upload speeds. This past month, AT&T rolled out their first pair of 4G phones which operate on the carrier's 4G HSPA+ network. Even though AT&T has upgraded their entire network to HSPA+, it is only available in areas that have the new backhaul to support it.

How fast are these 4G devices? AT&T is claiming that in areas where 4G is lit up, they are seeing download speeds of up to 6 Mbps. There is no mention of upload speed. But Android users are flocking to web forums, claiming their 4G phones are losing to 3G iPhones in data speed tests....

Apple is Testing Gesture-Based LockScreen for iOS

Apple is reportedly testing an Android-like lockscreen for the next major version of iOS. Google's Android OS has a gesture-based "dots" lockscreen that allows users to unlock their phone by highlighting the dots in a pre-established pattern.

Apparently, Apple is borrowing from Android's lockscreen concept and including it in a future version of iOS. There have been complaints that the current iOS lockscreen is not secure enough, and there have been numerous ways of bypassing the iPhone's 4-digit password...
