An upcoming Mac utility by jailbreak developer, Majd Alfhaily, (better known by his Twitter handle, @freemanrepo) allows users to outright bypass passcode lock protection on jailbroken iOS device.

Alfhaily sent us a beta version of the tool, which we were able to run successfully and unlock our passcode protected iPod touch. Take a look at our preview video walkthrough for more details.

Apple seeds OS X Mavericks developer preview 6

Apple has seeded the 6th developer preview of OS X Mavericks this afternoon. The download comes exactly two weeks after developer preview 5 dropped, which added both the Mac iBooks app and a new version of iPhoto beta.

The newest Mavericks preview comes alongside the final build of OS X 10.8.5, and is now available for download in either the Mac App Store, as a software update, or through Apple's Mac Dev Center, to all registered developers...

Phlo brings its multi-site search tool to iOS

If you're like me, you perform a number of searches on the web throughout the day. And not just on Google either, but Wikipedia, Twitter, YouTube, and various other sites. Wouldn't it be nice if you could search them all at once?

You can, actually, using Phlo. The app, which launched for the Mac earlier this year, allows you to search all of the above-listed sites (and many others) in a single go-round. And now you can do it on-the-go with the new iOS app...

Apple starts showing Mac Pro commercials in movie theaters

If you're heading out to go see the new Jobs biopic, or any other movie this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for Apple's new Mac Pro ad. Reports are surfacing that it has started airing in theaters nationwide.

The commercial, which was first shown at WWDC during a sneak preview of Apple's new Pro computer, shows the radically-redesigned desktop tower from various angles. We've got the ad queued up after the fold...

The fifth beta of the upcoming OS X Mavericks was released today, bringing with it for the first time the iBooks for Mac app.

Showcased during June's WWDC keynote, iBooks for Mac brings the iOS reading experience to the Mac, down to turning pages with a swipe, zooming in on images with a pinch and scrolling from cover to cover. One developer took to YouTube to share his experience with iBooks for Mac beta, the video is right after the break...

Apple issues another system status update to developers

Although the majority of its services are back online and in working condition, Apple has been diligent about keeping developers updated on the progress of its efforts after suffering a security threat a few weeks back.

Key services like the iOS and Mac dev centers are back online, but there are still a few items that remain stuck in limbo, namely, Xcode automatic configuration, TSIs, program enrollments, and renewals in Member Center.

Apple says that it expects that the majority of the remaining services should be back online this week. Have a look inside for the full e-mail that was issued to developers today.

Apple wins ‘Brand of the Year’ for computers, smartphones and tablets

Apple may be losing smartphone and tablet marketshare, but it's still the top brand in those categories. This, according to data from a recent US-based study on consumer brand perception by Marketing research firm Harris Interactive.

The firm polled some 38,000 Americans regarding their perceptions of their favorite brands, and Apple came out on top in 3 categories. As a result, Harris named the company the 'brand of the year' for smartphones, tablets and computers...

Realmac’s digital scrapbook app Ember is now available on Mac App Store

I've been growing increasingly frustrated with the note-taking giant Evernote's decision to buy Skitch, my favorite screenshot-taking and annotation app. Very little have I seen in terms of meaningful enhancements and new features post-buyout.

Making matters worse, I've never been a huge fan of Evernote. You could say I downright hate how notebook organization, recipe management, saving web clips or just jotting down a few quick thoughts in Evernote is such a cumbersome and resource-hungry experience (plus, it's high maintenance).

There's definitely a market for a decent scrapbook app out there, one that's been written from the ground up to take advantage of the latest and greatest software technologies, with a strong focus on simplicity and ease of use.

That's where Realmac Software's Ember for Mac jumps in. You can tell it's special because Realmac are the same guys who brought you the popular Clear multitouch to-do app for iOS/OS X and the delightful Analog Camera for iOS...

Apple Seeds OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 4

Apple has seeded the 4th developer preview of OS X Mavericks, and it's available for download right now. The download, which comes in at about 1.27GB for users of OS X Mavericks DP 3, can be found via the Mac App Store app. For those of you not yet running OS X Mavericks, the download would normally be available through the Mac Dev Center, but it's been down as a part of a well publicized security breach.

Realmac teases Ember, a digital scrapbook for your Mac

Realmac Software, the guys who brought you the popular Clear multitouch to-do app for the iPhone and the delightful Analog Camera for iOS, to name just two, is working on a brand new Mac application that wants to become your ultimate digital scrapbook.

Called Ember, it appeases to designers who are desperate to “save, organize, annotate, and share” their work, but it can also be used by ordinary users who are looking to manage their projects and present them as media-rich scrapbooks...
