FlipCam: a quicker way to switch between the front and rear-facing camera

FlipCam is an extremely simple jailbreak tweak that does one thing and one thing only. FlipCam allows you to quickly switch between the front-facing camera and rear-facing camera using a long press on the camera viewfinder.

At times I find that the button used to switch between views is in a difficult to reach spot, because it's located in the upper right-hand corner of the Camera app interface. FlipCam makes it easy to switch between each camera view, because the viewfinder is always within reach. Take a glance at our video walkthrough after the break for more information.

How to make the stock Camera app more minimal

‘AlbumSnapper’ is now available on Cydia

AlbumSnapper—the awesome new jailbreak tweak that allows you to create and assign photos to albums on the fly—is now available for download on Cydia. The tweak, which is available for $0.99, was reviewed a few weeks ago and was met with a positive response.

To use AlbumSnapper, just tap the Album button that appears next to the front facing camera button inside of the stock Camera app. Doing so will invoke a sheet that allows you to select a designated album for the photos that you snap. AlbumSnapper: create and manually select albums right from the Camera app

Have you ever faced the need to create an album or filter photos to a specific album right from the Camera app? If you're a frequent photo taker, or a frequent traveller, you've likely faced such a need.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could designate a photo for a specific album before you even take the photo? Wouldn't it be cool if you could create a new album on the fly, right from the comforts of the Camera app?

A new upcoming jailbreak tweak from developer Brandon Sachs allows you to do just that. AlbumSnapper is a wonderful addition to the stock Camera app, and frankly, I don't see why this isn't a native Camera app feature to begin with. Check inside for the full walkthrough.

A new jailbreak tweak aims to eliminate the "shutter-shock" syndrome that's been responsible for tons of missed photo masterpieces. QuickCam is a Cydia release that makes it possible to invoke a camera overlay on top of the current running app by means of an Activator gesture. Facebook streamlines its iOS offerings: Camera and Poke pulled from App Store

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time now for Facebook's ill-fated Poke and Camera apps.

Ever since releasing the revamped Messenger - and especially the beautiful Paper app - it's been clear to me that the outdated Poke for iPhone and the meaningless Camera would be headed to the technology graveyard.

Starting today, Camera and Poke can no longer be downloaded from the App Store.

Facebook has discontinued these two programs because their functionality has long been folded into the firm's main iOS client, as well as into Messenger and Paper...

Nokia’s PureView camera expert joins Apple

Ari Partinen, Nokia's expert who worked on the Lumia PureView imaging technology has joined Apple, presumably to work on the iPhone's camera. According to a pair of tweets issued by Partinen himself, today marks his last day on the job.

A graduate of Helsinki University of Technology, Partinen was Lumia Photography Lead at the Finnish company and was instrumental in the development of the Nokia 808 PureView 41-megapixel sensor with unmatched low-light sensitivity...

Apple exploring ‘super-resolution’ iPhone imaging

If Apple's patent filing with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) is anything to go by, future iOS devices could appeal further to iPhoneography fans by allowing them to take very detailed snaps using a fancily named 'super-resolution' imaging.

According to the filing, this could be achieved by using optical image stabilization - a feature that must be implemented in the camera hardware itself - to capture multiple images in a burst, each at a slightly offset angle.

The software would take it from there and stitch individual image data together to form a single super-resolution image, bypassing the need for more megapixels...

Analyst on iPhone 6 camera: no protruding lens, software-based image stabilization

As we told you before, supposed case leaks indicate that Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 could be as thin as the current-generation iPod touch, its slim body purportedly measuring between 6.5mm and 7.0mm (the iPhone 5s is 7.6mm thick).

But Apple's desire to create an ultra-thin phone might also result in an unsightly camera lens protrusion on the back, according to purported production images.

The exposed camera design is said to be the result of the larger components needed for a new optical image stabilization feature. Apple's engineers are faced with a dilemma: create an ultra-thin device that features optical image stabilization and has the annoying protrusion or expand the device slightly to 7.5mm to get rid of the protruded module on the back.

But there's allegedly a third option: tap the speedy A8 processor and the power of software to implement an electronic rather than optical image stabilization. This would allow Apple to realize the thin appearance of the device while doing away with the rumored bulge on the back...
