iPhone 6s rumored to keep same 8MP rear-camera sensor as previous generations

The component industry is expecting the rear-camera for the iPhone 6s to retain the same 8-megapixel sensor Apple has been using in previous generations of the iPhone. As such, it appears Apple won't be jumping on the 16-megapixel bandwagon of insanely increasing megapixel count for marketing purposes.

The rumor on Monday is centered around a report from Taipei-based analyst Jeff Pu who claims the iPhone 6s will have the same camera hardware specifications as previous models, according to Taipei Times. Pu is formulating his predictions around one supplier.

Apple pundit John Gruber said in November that the next iPhone refresh — likely to be marketed under the ‘iPhone 6s’ name — will include “the biggest camera jump ever” and now UDN’s supply chain sources are chiming in with some details.

According to the report Tuesday, relayed by GforGames, the next iPhone will feature a dual-lens camera out the back that will have optical zoom capabilities rather than digital zooming like all prior iPhone models.

Moreover, Apple is rumored to use some form a 3D pressure sensor akin to Force Touch technology that Apple Watch uses to sense the difference between a tap and a press.

This time last year at at CES in Las Vegas, the world’s first private thermal imager, the Flir One, was announced and released six months later in the form of a case that slides onto an iPhone 5/5s. And now at CES 2015, a much improved version got unveiled which works with any Lightning-enabled iOS device and Android smartphones via USB.

Additionally, a Flir One software developer kit (SDK) was released in December for the iOS platform.

Android developers will gain access to the SDK in the Spring. Both iOS and Android editions of the Flir One SDK will let programmers write apps which access absolute temperature data for all pixels and control the camera’s shutter mode, in both manual and automatic settings.

The only Camera app modes that I use on a consistent basis are the standard Photo and Videos modes. CameraModes is a new jailbreak tweak for people like me. Major 500px app update adds built-in camera, iPhone 6 support and more

Popular photo sharing service 500px has posted a monster update for its iOS client today, bringing the app to version 2.9. The update brings about a number of significant improvements, including support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and the 1Password iOS 8 login extension.

Perhaps most noteworthy, though, is that 500px has added a built-in camera to the app, with the option to control focus and exposure manually. So the app once only served as a browser/manager tool for the service, it now competes directly with Instagram, Flickr and others.

Following its App Store debut four months ago, Google's Photo Sphere Camera has been bumped to version 1.1.

You can now adjust focus and lighting of photos in Facebook Messenger

Facebook on Thursday issued a small update to its Messenger app for the iPhone and iPad, bringing out additional features to touch up the photos you take within the software using the built-in camera feature.

Now available in the App Store at no cost, Facebook Messenger 16.0 fixed an issue with sending messages while introducing a pair of new controls to adjust the focus and lighting of photos you take in the app.
