Apple sues Motorola Mobility in a US court over Qualcomm licenses

The latest turn in Apple's ongoing patent war with Android manufacturing partners has been fairly disappointing for the iPhone-maker. A judge recently found Apple to be infringing on one of Motorola's wireless patents, causing the company to remove some of its products from its German online store.

Today, Reuters is reporting that Apple has launched a counter-attack, filing a lawsuit against Motorola in a US court. And the outcome of this trial has the power to turn the tide...

German court dismisses Motorola 3G-related lawsuit against Apple

A German court has today ruled that Apple does not infringe upon patents held by Motorola which pertain to 3G/UMTS technology.

Motorola had claimed that Apple's iPad and iPhone infringed upon patents held by the company. Judge Andreas Voss of the Mannheim Regional Court today ruled that Motorola did not present conclusive evidence of any infringement taking place and as such decided not to award an injunction.

The ruling relates to claim 9 of European Patent 1053613, entitled "Code and System for Generating a Complex Pseudonoise Sequence for Processing a Code Division Multiple Access [CDMA] Signal." Snappy title indeed...

Could AT&T’s new LTE micro SIM cards be for upcoming iPad/iPhone?

Among the rumors we've heard regarding Apple's next-generation tablet, LTE compatibility has come up a number of times. And last month, Bloomberg seemed pretty confident when it reported that the iPad 3 would feature the 4G technology.

Now a new report from PhoneArena adds some weight to the argument, as the site has just learned that AT&T is about to receive a whole new batch of LTE-capable micro SIM cards. Could these be for next-generation iPads and iPhones?

Guess which smartphone retains its value better than any other handset

The long term value of a product is largely determined by its resale value. That's why so many people will ask what the resale value of a car is before purchasing it.

Obviously it's not as big of a factor when looking for a new smartphone (unless you're paying full retail), but it's still a concern. And according to a recent report from priceonomics, no other handset retains its value better than Apple's iPhone...

iOS overtakes Mac OS in web traffic stakes

With Apple shifting more and more iPhones and iPads by the day, and the iPod touch merrily trundling along in the shadows, it doesn't take a genius to realize that iOS is becoming a real player in just about every market. With so many people browsing the web on their tablets and smartphones, all running iOS, how long will it be before they overtake the Mac in web traffic share?

Well, according to ad company Chitika, that time has already arrived...

Why the iPad 3 rumored Retina Display is such a big deal

At this point, it seems like a Retina display in the iPad 3 is a pretty safe bet. After two years, and two iterations, of the same screen resolution, we fully expect Apple's next tablet to feature a much sharper display.

Much of the tech world seems to be convinced that that display will be of Retina quality — which is a huge deal. And to demonstrate how huge, designer Chris Koerner put together a rather interesting infographic...

Over the past two days, we have learned a great deal about the rumored iPad 3. Apple stock reaching new heights, now worth more than Google and Microsoft combined

It sure is a good time to be an Apple investor. After reaching new records a couple weeks ago, the stock hasn't stopped going up ever since. AAPL is currently trading at about $495, which is an absolute record.

As 9to5Mac notes, at its current $460 billion market capitalization, Apple is worth more than 10% of all NASDAQ combined. More impressive maybe is that Apple is worth 52 times RIM's value, more than 5 times Amazon's, more than twice the value of Google, and almost double the size of Microsoft. Heck, Apple is worth more than Google and Microsoft combined!

Apple set to announce iPad 3 first week in March

We're undoubtedly nearing the announcement of whatever Apple has up its sleeve for the next generation iPad, and now new claims suggest we're just a few short weeks away from the big day.

John Paczkowski of AllThingsD now believes that Apple will hold a press event first week in March, with the iPad 3/iPad 2S/iPad Super Epic Edition being made available for purchase soon after. If the iPad 2 release is any kind of indicator, we wouldn't expect to have to wait any longer than two weeks from the announcement before queuing up to buy one.

As is always the case, Apple refused to comment on the speculation, though it is an open secret that the next generation iPad is very much on the horizon...
