How to fix issues connecting to the server during Apple Watch setup

Have you ever received the error message "there was a problem connecting to the server" during the Apple Watch setup process? This error may occur when you try to log in to Messages.

The problem with this error is that there's no way to bypass it from the Apple Watch app. Thankfully, however, there is a way to get past this error so that you can complete the Apple Watch initial setup process.

Apple engineers 2mm-long high-resolution camera that could be suitable for use in Apple Watch 2

9to5Mac recently learned from sources in the know that a second-generation Apple Watch will integrate a tiny camera into the top bezel for conducting FaceTime video conversations from your wrist. The report, short on details, has left many questions unanswered and prompted watchers to scratch their head in curiosity.

The logic goes: if Apple couldn't develop a non-protruding camera for the latest iPhones, how on Earth is the company supposed to fit one into such a tiny wrist-worn device?

Having faced the very same engineering challenges, rival Samsung has taken the easy route by embedding a camera into a Gear's band rather than the smartwatch's body.

Though not the prettiest of solutions, it is in fact functional—to a certain extent. But can you really imagine a camera bulge on an Apple Watch band? Yeah, me neither. Thankfully, Apple appears to have shrunk a high-resolution camera into a tiny module that could fit inside an Apple Watch.

TodoMovies 4 adds Apple Watch app, custom lists, richer views, tabbed navigation and more

As a longtime fan of TodoMovies, an excellent movie tracker by German developer Taphive, I've been using the app to keep tabs on the movies I wanted to watch.

Since its March 2014 App Store debut, developers have constantly updated the app with meaningful feature additions like Motion Posters in TodoMovies 2, a revamped design in TodoMovies 3 and lots of other goodies.

Previously a $1.99 download, TodoMovies went the freemium route and it did help widen the app's user base. And as of Thursday, TodoMovies 4 is available in the App Store with tons more perks.

For starters, it now offers a nicely designed Apple Watch app for your wrist. On the iPhone side, enhancements include custom lists, a richer movie details view, tab-based navigation, support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens and more.

Read on for a quick review based on my brief hands-on time with the new version.

Apple to allow third-party Apple Watch accessories that integrate inductive charging pads

Apple has changed the terms of its 'Made for Apple Watch' licensing program to allow accessory makers to integrate charging pads directly into third-party docks and stands for the Apple Watch, 9to5Mac reported Thursday.

Currently, makers of Apple Watch stands and docks are prohibited from providing Apple Watch charging pads so, for example, stands like Twelve South's HiRise for Apple Watch typically have an opening into which users themselves must insert the charging pad that came with their Apple Watch.

watchOS 2 beta 4 for Apple Watch seeded to developers, here’s your changelog

In addition to releasing iOS 9 beta 4 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta 4 to its developer army, a matching beta of the upcoming Apple Watch software update is now available to registered members of the Apple Developer Program.

The new watchOS 2 beta 4 (build 13S5305d) requires an iPhone running iOS 9 beta 4 and can be applied over-the-air by going to the General -> Software Update section of the Apple Watch companion app.

Apple Watch hitting Apple Online Store in New Zealand, Russia and Turkey on July 31

Apple on Tuesday announced a fourth wave of Apple Watch expansion as the device is scheduled to launch in New Zealand, Russia and Turkey on Friday, July 31. The wrist-worn gizmo will be available in these countries from 7:01am local time via the Apple Online Store.

Customers in Turkey will also have the option of picking up their watch in one of Apple's brick-and-mortar stores at the Zorlu Center and Akasya Shopping Center in Istanbul, as first noted by MacRumors.

Apple Watch hitting New Zealand on July 31

The Apple Watch world tour continues with the impending release in New Zealand on Friday, July 31, starting at 7:01am local time. The release date has been confirmed via an updated product page within the official Apple Store shopping app for the iPhone and iPad, as first discovered by 9to5Mac.

Apple has yet to issue a press release announcing an expanded Apple Watch availability in New Zealand.

The New Zealand launch would be presumably in addition to a few other new markets, too. The wrist-worn device originally launched in April in select markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan.

Review: Twelve South HiRise for Apple Watch—an unassuming charging dock and a great stand

Apple Watch stands are multiplying like rabbits and getting more useful. Today, I get to tell you all about the HiRise for Apple Watch.

This is one of the first stands for Apple’s wearable device and the very first watch stand from Twelve South, a company based in Charleston, South Carolina which has been designing premium accessories exclusively for use with Apple devices.

Like their popular HiRise stand for iPhone and iPad, the Apple Watch edition helps protect your device while it's charging. And like other Twelve South products, it looks gorgeous and was designed to support all Apple Watch sizes, models and bands.

But is it worth your attention? Read on for all the details.

Apple seeds watchOS 2 beta 3 to developers

In addition to releasing a third developer preview of OS X El Capitan and seeding iOS 9 beta 3 with Apple Music to members of the Apple Developer Program, Apple on Wednesday also released watchOS 2 beta 3 for developers.

It follows watchOS 2 beta 2, which was seeded to developers just a little over two weeks ago, and the first watchOS 2 beta that was posted minutes after last month's Worldwide Developers Conference keynote talk had wrapped up.

The latest watchOS software update must be applied through the Apple Watch companion app on an iPhone with iOS 9 beta by going to the General -> Software Update section.

Report states that Apple Watch sales face a major decline, but take it with a grain of salt

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Slice Intelligence, is reporting that Apple Watch sales (US only) are facing a significant slowdown, as noted by MarketWatch this afternoon. Per Slice, the Apple Watch has gone from a peak of around 200,000 units a day right around launch, to under 20,000 units a day.

Obviously, this sort of data isn't based on cold hard facts—only Apple itself would be able to provide us with 100% accurate numbers—but this kind of report does put a gloomy cloud over the Apple Watch.

Should Apple be worried? It's simply way too early to tell right now.

But one must remember that, unlike its iPhone and iPads, the Apple Watch is a brand new product category, and Apple has been met with significant supply chain constraints. Remember, it wasn't that long ago when you couldn't even walk into a store and buy one.

How to get Apple Watch-styled Lock screen notifications on your iPhone

WatchNotifications is a brand new jailbreak tweak from developer Thomas Finch, that seeks to better unify the look of notifications on Apple Watch and iPhone. It does this by mimicking the look of Apple Watch notifications on your iPhone's Lock screen.

Available for $1.00 on Cydia's BigBoss repo, if you prefer the look of the notifications on your Apple Watch, then you'll most certainly be interested in WatchNotifications.
