You must watch this live action television commercial for Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Most Wanted, an open-world racing game - it will totally make your day. The racing sessions have you fighting the cops and the trailer depicts that.

I instantly fell in love with the spaghetti western type soundtrack. And don't you just love how they pixelated the finger the driver gave to the cops? Thank actor/writer/director Jon Favreau for that, he's behind the ad.

Developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts, Need for Speed: Most Wanted files as the nineteenth title in the long-running series, picking up on the Most Wanted IP rather than the Hot Pursuit reboot that Criterion developed previously...

Microsoft airs first Surface commercial

It seems like it's been months since Microsoft first showed off the Surface tablet —the company's first foray into the space. Actually, it's been four months. But never fear, the long-awaited release date is almost here.

Microsoft is set to launch the tablet on October 26th, alongside the latest update to its operating system, Windows 8. And it kicked off its advertising blitz last night with a new TV ad entitled: The Surface Movement...

First Windows 8 ads leak ahead of October 26 release

As Microsoft gears up to launch Windows 8 later this month, arguably the most important software release in Redmond's history, first television commercials have surfaced, revealing how the company will communicate the benefits of its first touch-focused operating system to the general public.

Windows 8 has a new tile-based interface consistent with the Metro design language, can run both legacy apps and those optimized for the touch interface, includes a digital store akin to the Mac App Store, features a unified kernel and scales up from the tiniest to the biggest screens and much more.

True to its form, Microsoft plans to offer Windows 8 in a bunch of flavors, including ARM and x86-based tablet versions, Windows Phone 8 for smartphones and standard desktop and server versions. Three more ads are right below the fold...

Apple’s attention to detail extends to ads

If you're subscribed to Apple's official YouTube channel and have email notifications for new uploads enabled, an alert may have hit your inbox today saying Apple just uploaded the Siri ad starring film director Martin Scorsese (go here for a parody treatment).

And just like that, because the video has replaced the original clip, a bunch of web pages that have the original embed code in place now show empty boxes (don't worry, I already updated our article with a new code).

At first glance, the commercial is exactly the same as the original ad from two weeks ago. At closer inspection, the new version removes the AT&T branding and fixes a minuscule editing error that only the pickiest of eyes would catch. That's attention to detail for you...

iPhone ad features e-book with fabricated quotes

A new report points out that Apple's been airing an interesting iPhone television commercial in some local markets, such as Canada and Germany, and it shows a shot of Jonah Lehrer’s “Imagine: How Creativity Works” front cover.

What's interesting is that Lehrer last month admitted to making up the quotes attributed to Bob Dylan. Though the book sold more than 200,000 copies in digital and physical formats, sellers pulled it over the scandal, including Apple which no longer offers a dead tree version of "Imagine: How Creativity Works" on the iBookstore...

Apple airs new adverts about Geniuses

Apple has begun airing interesting new commercials, possibly marking a subtle change in advertising direction. The adverts debuted during the Olympic Games opening ceremonies tonight. Rather than focus on the newly released Mountain Lion, the nine-month-old iPhone 4S or Siri (which is increasingly working against Apple these days), these new clips depicts Apple Store Geniuses solving problems for customers.

The first advert that can be seen above is aptly named Mayday and depicts a Genius on board an airplane helping a customer solve an issue before landing. Two more commercials are included right below for your viewing pleasure...

Siri gets it all wrong in latest iPhone 4S ad

If you've used Siri in the past, you know how reliable, or how unreliable it can be. For someone like me who speaks with a strong French accent, Siri gets it wrong more often than not, which led me to use Siri for very basic tasks instead of trying to push her limits.

If there is one time where Siri should be right on spot though, it's during commercials or ads. But there again, it seems like Siri, or rather Apple marketing department, isn't on top of its game.

In a recent ad placed on the back cover of the Economist, Siri was asked "what does poison oak look like" and she managed to return the wrong results...

Opera (yes, the browser people) published its first ever State of Mobile Advertising report this week, a study regarding the effectiveness of advertising on different mobile platforms.

As you might have expected, Apple's iOS came out on top. Despite Android's lead in overall marketshare, users seem to browse the web and click on ads more on Apple's mobile OS...

Run for the hills, Galaxy S III ad assault begins

I know this is an iOS blog, but today Samsung launched its Galaxy S III in the United States with much fanfare and we thought you'd be interested in some of the television commercials they're running now. They're shiny, 100 percent devoid of Apple bashing and way cooler than Samsung's first promo video for the S III.

You can also bet on Samsung bombarding us with more commercials for the S III in the coming weeks. If these two adverts are an indication ("the next big thing is already here"), I'm expecting some fast jabs at the iPhone (though Terry Gou would disagree).

The question is, will Samsung's latest baby become the first smartphone to outsell the iPhone?
