The Likelihood of the iPhone Appearing on T-Mobile Just Decreased With This Video

With the release of an advertisement dissing the iPhone 4 and AT&T's network, you can pretty much squash any idea of the iPhone appearing on T-Mobile's network anytime soon.

The video clip purposely takes Apple's infamous "Mac versus PC" ads, and flips the script. It features an attractive female claiming to be a MyTouch4G, while a guy struggling to support another guy on piggyback claims to be an iPhone 4. Let the hilarity ensure...

Of course the guy riding piggyback is the AT&T network, which is putting a burden on Mr. iPhone, hence slowing him down. Brilliant! The woman then touts the MyTouch's video-chat-anywhere capabilities -- courtesy of T-Mobile's 4G network -- all the while poking fun at the fact that FaceTime for the iPhone 4 only works while connected to Wi-Fi.

Obviously, all of that means nothing to us here at iDB, seeing as a simple jailbreak will allow you to use FaceTime anywhere you receive a cellular signal. Still, the ad is quite amusing, and gives Apple a nice dose of their own medicine.

Slower network or not though, at the end of the day, the MyTouch4G is still, unfortunately, a MyTouch4G.

Target is Going to Sell iPhones

"At Target we continue to offer our guests the best in electronics, so we’re happy to add iPhone to our Target Mobile offerings." The senior VP of Target merchandising has confirmed that Target is slated to be the next retail chain to sell iPhones.

The iPhone 4 and 3GS will be available at all Target locations for walk-in purchases on November 7. Target has now joined the ranks of Walmart and Best Buy as a major retail partner for iPhone. Target has also promised to have in-store activations for AT&T...

Is AT&T Preparing to Lose iPhone Exclusivity?

With the rumors flying again that Verizon might be getting a CDMA iPhone sometime next year, it looks like AT&T might be getting ready for life after iPhone exclusivity. Bloomberg notes that AT&T has been ramping up new smartphones on their network.

Lately they have added several new Windows 7 and Android phones to their mix of units. AT&T has said numerous times that they are not worried about losing the iPhone exclusivity due to the increase in popularity with Android and interest in Windows 7 Mobile.

Is This the Verizon iPhone 4?

A blog by the name of Richy Rich has posted what they claim to be spy-photo's of the upcoming CDMA Version of the iPhone 4, which is reportedly heading to Verizon in the near future. The device in the shots are said to be running a test operating system, which is a lot like what we saw from the GSM version of the iPhone 4, when photos of it inevitably leaked online earlier this year.

The blog also reports that the new CDMA iPhone 4 will retain its GSM micro-sim slot, which would indicate that the device could become a genuine "world phone" were it to be unlocked. A few already existing phones on Verizon's network, most notably those in the Blackberry line, already offer dual CDMA and GSM connectivity...

Next iPhone in Final Field Testing Stage, CDMA on the Way

Boy Genius Report has reported (from an inside source at Apple) that the new CDMA iPhone has reached final testing stages. There is no confirmation that this iPhone is specifically intended for Verizon, but CDMA compatibility is almost a given. The above image is of the rumored device, which BGR says may contain a SIM card slot...

About two months ago, John Gruber broke the story that the CDMA iPhone was in "Engineering Verification Testing" (EVT) status. One month ago, Apple Insider reported that Apple is apparently planning on building 3 million CDMA iPhones by December.

The WSJ has a scoop today citing a person "briefed by Apple" who says the company will start manufacturing a new CDMA iPhone by the end of the year that would allow Verizon to sell the device beginning of 2011.

Of course, we've heard that before. Many times. Many, many, many times! So what makes this rumor different this time? Certainly not the source of the rumor, who let me remind you, is a person "briefed by Apple"...

How to Get Your iPhone Back on AT&T’s Unlimited Data Plan

When AT&T changed its data plans a few months ago, it put an end the unlimited data plans for new iPhone customers. Existing customers were however offered the possibility to stay on those unlimited plan. Others decided to go to a cheaper capped data plan. The trick is once you give up your unlimited plan, you cannot go back to it.

That's exactly what my friend Mathew did. He wanted to save a few bucks and downgraded to the $25 2GB plan but he quickly regretted his move. I was talking with Mathew the other day while preparing the TwiiPhone podcast when he told me he had found a way to get his iPhone back to the unlimited data plan.

By now there’s been ample time to digest the consequences of AT&T’s 2 gigabyte data cap initiated earlier this summer. Would it be too little? Are the prices fair? These were some of the questions that only time and usage could aptly answer. Well, I’ve done the time, and I’ve certainly put in my fair share of mileage on my iPhone 4 to be able to draw a conclusion.

At $25 for 2,048 MB of data, that amounts to about .01220703 cents per megabyte. So a little over a penny per megabyte. Sounds fair enough. But cost was never the huge factor in my worries about AT&T’s new guidelines, real world usage was. In other words, how would my normal usage be affected by these new rules? Would I always have the data cap in the back of my mind causing me to stress unnecessarily? That’s something I didn’t want to have to put up with...

Brits Look to Make a Dollar Off the iPhone

9 to 5 Mac reports that the folks across the pond are lining up to buy brand new iPhone 4s and then sell them back to China (where they are made), unlocked at a higher price. I like people with confidence. They maintain an aura of cool while some intense situations are presented to them. Then once in a while their confidence is largely mistaken as delusion. Is that what is happening with the CEO of AT&T and his latest claim of not caring about losing iPhone exclusivity? Not really.

Market Watch has a report that cites Randall Stephenson telling investors that basically the majority of current iPhone users are in long contracts as it stands. That's certainly true however those "long" contracts are less than 2 years and will eventually need to be renewed to stay long term...

Only 23% of AT&T Customers Would Switch for a Verizon iPhone

A new survey by Credit Suisse shows that only 23% of AT&T customers would be willing to switch to Verizon if the carrier got the iPhone. The good old talk about a Verizon iPhone. Sigh. It seems I am the only believing there won't be a Verizon iPhone next year.

According to this survey, 23% would switch to Verizon, 3% would switch to Sprint, and only 2% would switch to T-Mobile. 9% are not sure what they would do. If you do the math, that leaves 63% of people staying with AT&T, most likely because they are satisfied...

iPhone 5 To Run on Both 3G and LTE

Since I started following the iPhone daily buzz I am constantly reminded by how passionate and devout the community covering the device can be. So devout that the moment someone predicts the future of an unreleased iPhone, the rest of the bloggers rush to validate the claim.

CNET reports that an analyst from Rodman and Renshaw claims that Apple's next generation phone will offer up support for both 3G technology and the futuristic LTE (Long Term Evolution) platform which is being touted as "4G" technology. Ashok Kumar said the following about the switch:
