AT&T: We Need T-Mobile to Increase Our Network’s Reliability

Since the news surfaced about AT&T's potential acquisition of T-Mobile, many have concerned themselves with AT&T's motivation behind the move.

Unsurprisingly, Sprint, the company that stands to lose the most from the deal, is officially in opposition and has asked the government to block the $39 billion dollar transaction.

AT&T's Mobilize Everything website was recently updated to reflect the news that a filing with the FCC has been made. In it, they expressed their reasoning behind the move, and the reasons why they believe it will benefit the wireless industry as a whole...

Verizon CFO Says that iPhone 5 Will Be GSM + CDMA “Global Device”

The iPhone 5 will be a dual-baseband device that operates on both GSM and CDMA networks. According to comments made by Verizon CFO Fran Shammo in the company's last quarterly earnings call, Apple's next iPhone will be a "global device" compatible with all carriers.

Shammo was the one that leaked the information that Verizon would be getting the iPad 2, so there's reason to believe his claim is true.

Verizon Has Sold 2.2 Million iPhones in Two Months

Following the heels of AT&T's and Apple's Q1 earnings call, Verizon has announced a rather impressive earnings report for Q1 of 2011. The Verizon iPhone has been available to consumers since February, and the industry was been waiting with eager anticipation for Verizon's official word on its iPhone sales.

Yesterday, AT&T announced 3.6 million iPhone activations on its network for Q1, and Verizon has announced a staggering 2.2 million iPhone activations since February. That means that Verizon is selling 1 million+ iPhones per month.

AT&T’s Q1 iPhone Sales Up 33%, Unaffected by Verizon iPhone

AT&T posted its first-quarter earnings this morning, and the U.S. carrier saw a 33% increase in iPhone activations during the first quarter of 2011. A grand total of 3.6 million iPhones were activated on AT&T, helping to give the carrier a 10.2% overall increase in wireless revenue.

Since the iPhone was made available on Verizon, a drop in iPhone sales on AT&T has been expected. Instead, AT&T announced that this past quarter was its best first-quarter earnings ever. Looks like the Verizon iPhone isn't really enticing customers away from AT&T...

Alleged White iPhone 4 Shows Up in Verizon Inventory Database

If you needed any more confirmation that the mythical White iPhone 4 is coming, here you go.

Following yesterday's report providing official word from Apple regarding the availability of the White iPhone 4 this Spring, comes even more confirmation. The folks over at 9to5 Mac have obtained an internal Verizon inventory document which lists the highly-anticipated White iPhone 4.

Update: Apple Confirms White iPhone 4 Will Ship This Spring, Will Be Available on AT&T and Verizon

It's recently been confirmed by multiple sources that Apple will indeed unveil the long-awaited white iPhone 4 in the coming weeks. Various rumors have pointed to the white iPhone over the last 10 months, but these last set of reports affirm a definite release in the next few weeks.

The Wall Street Journal has gotten word directly from Apple that the white iPhone will debut "this spring." Bloomberg recently reported this news with added info that the device will be available on AT&T and Verizon.

Surprise. Verizon iPhone Users Drop Fewer Calls

Well thank you Captain Obvious! In a recent poll it's been revealed that Verizon iPhone's drop fewer calls than AT&T iPhone users.

A ChangeWave survey consisting of 4,068 participants found that Verizon users have experienced 3% less dropped calls when compared to AT&T users.

While it's not the greatest sampling of customers, it does reinforce the overall notion that Verizon features a more stable and robust network.

In other news, the sky is blue, and I had to pay my taxes this year as well...

AT&T Increasing Early Upgrade Pricing For iPhone?

If you're a person that likes to upgrade to the newest iPhone each year, still having not completed the previous 2-year commitment you signed, AT&T offers an early upgrade price. That upgrade price is usually about double that of the full 2-year contract pricing for new customer/eligible ugprades.

The guys over at AndroidCentral seem to have obtained an internal AT&T document that shows early upgrade price increased for the iPhone by $50.

AT&T CEO Says T-Mobile Deal Will Instantly Boost iPhone Service

The world rejoiced on January 11th of this year as Verizon Wireless announced it would become the 2nd U.S. carrier to sell Apple's popular iPhone. People weren't excited because it would bring new features to the iPhone, they were excited because a different carrier was finally offering the device.

Since its introduction in 2007, the iPhone has been exclusive to AT&T. Because of that, they have taken a lot of heat over their network's ability to withstand the heavy data usage. They've even recently lost coverage battles with Verizon, as they just haven't had the network capacity to support all of the extra traffic...

Will the iPhone 5 Have LTE?

Recent rumors have said that Apple won't be releasing the iPhone 5 at WWDC in June. TechCrunch reported that iOS 5's release will be pushed back to the fall, and that we won't see any hardware announcements from Apple this summer.

If this report is true, this year will look very different for Apple. The company's product cycle has always been fairly predictable, but circumstances surrounding the iPhone point to an unusual set of releases this year.

Specifically, consensus seems to be that LTE could be playing a role in Apple's decisions surrounding the next iPhone...

What the Acquisition of T-Mobile by AT&T Means for the Industry [Infographic]

On March 20, 2011, a deal was reached between the 2nd largest wireless carrier in the U.S. and the 4th largest. This deal of epic proportions involves $39 billion dollars and the making of a wireless network that would top even Verizon's giant reach of 100 million customers.

What does everyone else have to say about this? Well Sprint has been pretty public with how it feels about the T-Mobile takeover. BGR reported last week that Sprint CEO Dan Hesse made on the record comments about the merger and that it would "Stifle Innovation" in the wireless industry...

FCC Official Goes Off The Record, Says “No Way Chairman’s Office Rubber Stamps” AT&T’s T-Mobile Acquisition

With Sprint and ClearWire both opposing AT&T's $39 billion deal to acquire T-Mobile, the FCC doesn't seem to see this deal happening, either.

Today, the Wall Street Journal spoke off the record with a Federal Communications Commission official who claims that, “There’s no way the chairman’s office [will] rubber-stamp” AT&T’s $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA from parent company Deutsche Telekom. The anonymous FCC official added that the approval process will be “a steep climb at least.”
