Apple posts new ‘Brilliant’ and ‘Discover’ iPhone ads

Apple has posted two new iPhone commercials this evening. The first one is entitled 'Brilliant,' and the second is 'Discover,' and both of them follow the Cupertino company's recent marketing trend for its iOS devices.

The spots start out with a slew of quickly flashing descriptive words, landing on a final one just before jumping into a quick app demo. And they repeat this a couple of times to an upbeat soundtrack. Check them out...

How to alter your iPhone’s cursor and selection colors

CursorAndSelection Colors is a tweak that brings the ability to alter the color of the iPhone's cursor, selection bar, and selection highlight. This tweak, $1.00 on Cydia's BigBoss repo, features a settings panel that makes it easy to select from amongst over a dozen different colors for any of the aforementioned three elements.

Viral video star ‘Sweet Brown’ suing Apple over copyright infringement

While she may not have time for bronchitis, it appears that Kimberly 'Sweet Brown' Wilkins has plenty of time for lawsuits. The viral video star has reportedly filed a copyright infringement suit against Apple for selling a track on iTunes that featured her voice.

The song was called "I got bronchitis," and it used several samples of Wilkins' catchphrases from an early 2012 interview that turned her into an internet sensation. She is suing Apple, along with the producers of the track, for some $15 million in damages...

‘PasteboardKey’ makes it easy to access previously copied text

I'm a huge fan of Alfred for OS X. Alfred is a productivity app for the Mac that allows you to launch apps, search, and do a whole host of other things via its sprawling settings. One of my favorite Alfred features is the pasteboard manager. It's basically a place where you can go back and access anything you've copied to your pasteboard.

Understandably, iOS doesn't have anything like this built in, but a new jailbreak tweak allows you to have quick access to your pasteboard from virtually any app as well. The tweak is called PasteboardKey, and it's accessed via the language button on the iOS keyboard. Have a look inside for our full video walkthrough...

How to use the iPhone’s camera without exiting the current app

InstantCamera is a $0.99 jailbreak tweak available on the BigBoss repo, and it lets you access the camera from within any app using a simple Activator gesture. The fact that the developer charges $0.99 for this tweak, when another tweak just like it — a tweak called CamFast — is already available on Cydia free, baffles me.

In fact, both tweaks work exactly the same. Both use Activator gestures to invoke the Camera app API from anywhere, including your Lock screen. So why would you pay $0.99 for this tweak, when it's already been available for free since last year?

The SurfacePad is perfect for iPhone nudists

Some would call me an iPhone "nudist." I prefer iPhone "purist," but no one really cares. The point is, I prefer using my iPhone caseless. Sure, I get cases on a regular basis for prototype and review testing, but that does not mean I want to use one. Using an iPhone without a case prevents bulky third party hardware from ruining my purely Apple experience.

It appears Twelve South is after my heart and as they sent over a review unit of the SurfacePad. Recently releasing the SurfacePad, the company begs, "don't call it a case." Using SurfacePad for about a week, I have grown to enjoy its simplicity. Take a look inside to get the full details...

Evasi0n 1.5.2 released with new language support

It's been quite a while now, and iOS 6.x is still vunerable to the Evasi0n jailbreak. According to reports, the next version of iOS 6 — iOS 6.1.3 — is expected to change that, stamping out the exploits and potential security vulnerabilities used by Evasi0n. In the mean time, though, it's all gravy. In fact, Evasi0n was just updated today, which brings its version number up to 1.5.2

Evasion 1.5.2 is a very minor update that has to do with language localizations. More specifically, support has been added to include localizations for the native languages of the Evad3rs: French, German, and Chinese.

Senior iOS architect for Honda R&D uses brainwaves to control iPhone

This is pretty interesting. Senior iOS Architect at Honda R&D America Duane Cash is claiming that he has come up with a method of controlling Siri, and subsequently his iPhone, using a brainwave-reading device.

Cash uploaded a video of his project in action yesterday, which he describes as an effort to create a mind-controlled virtual assistant on the iPhone. And what he has so far looks pretty impressive. Check it out...

Change or hide your status bar carrier name with ‘CarrierPigeon’

There are literally about a million and one ways to change the carrier name on an iPhone, and CarrierPigeon is the latest such jailbreak tweak to hit Cydia. As you would imagine, CarrierPigeon is a simple and straightforward jailbreak tweak. Its settings panel contains options to allow you to outright hide the iPhone's carrier name in the status bar, and of course, an option that allows you to customize the carrier name with your own text.

New report claims iPhone 5S will feature a fingerprint sensor and NFC

The chatter regarding Apple's next-generation handset, the iPhone 5S, has stayed fairly consistent over the past few months. The talk points to a device with an iPhone 5-like design, an improved camera system and other internal upgrades.

Another rumor that continues to surface is that the phone will feature a built-in fingerprint sensor. And it's popped up again this morning in a new report, claiming the 5S will use that and NFC to push Apple further into mobile payments...
