Apple reportedly facing issues bringing Apple Pay to China

Apple is looking to grow on its recent iPhone dominance in China by launching Apple Pay in the region, however its efforts have hit a snag as China’s central bank, UnionPay bank-card service and e-commerce giant Alibaba have become a struggle to negotiate with, centering mainly around profit sharing, according to MarketWatch.

WSJ: Apple scrapped many advanced health features for Apple Watch

The Wall Street Journal is out with a report on Monday detailing that Apple had originally intended the Apple Watch to be a lot more.

The publication's sources state that executives at the Cupertino-based company had envisioned a full-fledged health monitor, but many plans were scrapped after reliability and complexity came into play, perhaps paving way for features that could be found in a second-generation of the Watch due out in April.

TapToScroll: add additional status bar scroll behavior to iOS

In iOS you can quickly scroll up to the top of a page by tapping on the status bar. This is an extremely convenient shortcut, one that I always sorely miss when I have to use an Android device.

But sometimes I wonder why there isn't a way to quick scroll to the bottom of a page. I mean, there's a page up and a page down key on a standard keyboard for a reason.

Since there's probably no hope that we'll ever see such a shortcut appear natively in iOS, I am, once again, turning to the jailbreak community for help. Last night, I even went as far as to create a concept video for the idea, but as it turns out, that wasn't needed. It wasn't needed because a tweak already exists that pretty much accomplishes this exact need. That tweak is called TapToScroll for Activator, and it's available for free on Cydia's BigBoss repo right now.

MTerminal is a great replacement for Mobile Terminal

Since the realization that jailbroken devices can be permanently bricked, it's a good opportunity to remind you to change your iPhone's root password. Using a terminal emulator makes changing the password a piece of cake. Unfortunately, the most popular terminal emulator hasn't been updated for iOS 8 or for newer devices like the iPhone 6.

Thankfully, there is a free alternative terminal emulator available in Cydia, and it's actually a fork of Mobile Terminal. Entitled MTerminal, this lightweight Mobile Terminal alternative comes from developer lordscotland, and features iOS 8 support with optimization for big screen devices.

Create low poly art from your photos using Trigraphy

Fans of the low poly art movement will be happy to know that, there’s an app for that. Now, instead of building the geometric vector design from scratch, anyone can turn any image into something Piet Mondrian would be impressed with.

Trigraphy is a photography app that turns any picture into low poly geometric art. You can make a still life out of things you find in your kitchen and it will be good enough to frame.

Beware: malicious packages could potentially brick your iPhone

Over the weekend, an interesting thread appeared on Reddit involving a new boot color changing mod. That mod, which came from developer @daytonhasty with lots of help from @xerub, wasn't in itself malicious, but if misapplied could render a perfectly good iOS device permanently useless.

Sadly, because directions on installing the mod weren't followed to a tee, some users were greeted with an expensive paperweight. On the heels of such a revelation, another developer has created a proof of concept tweak that shows how someone with malicious intent could fool jailbreakers into installing a package that renders their device useless.

Wide-ranging profile offers Jony Ive’s thoughts on cars, watches, the future and more

The New Yorker's February 2015 issue features a lengthy interview with British-born designer Jonathan Ive who is widely credited with helping revive Apple's fortunes alongside his spiritual mentor Steve Jobs, who used to call Ive “my best friend in the whole world”.

Suggestively headlined “The Shape Of Things To Come,” the extensive profile offers deep insight into Ive's brain and centers around topics like the Apple Watch, cars, creating the iPhone 6 and working with Steve Jobs.

Seriously, it's an epic article you absolutely shouldn't pass. It also covers other wide ranging topics and reveals a few previously unknown tidbits about Apple's industrial design czar and his design process.

Here are the most interesting takeaways from the interview.

Another purported iPad Pro case leaks

Yesterday, French blog NowhereElse.fr pointed us to a few curious images of a purported protective case for an ‘iPad Pro,’ originated from a Chinese accessory vendor which makes iPad Air cases.

The sleek black case clearly shows cutouts for a rear-facing camera, Lightning connector, volume rocker, microphone, mute switch and power button.

However, the cutouts for stereo speakers believed to be located at the top and bottom of the device are nowhere to be seen. Big media has asserted that the oversized iPad will rock a screen measuring either 12.2 or 12.9 inches and one analyst believes the device may include an optional stylus for the creative types.

New Watch apps previewed: MoneyWiz and MileWiz

Ahead of its wearable release in April, Apple invited select developers to submit their Watch apps for the inclusion in the App Store. We've already seen previews of Todoist, we know eBay is working on a bidding Watch app and Nimblebit even created a puzzle game for it.

And now, developer SilverWiz has posted a pair of previews of its two productivity apps for the device: the personal finance app MoneyWiz 2 and the automatic mileage tracking software MileWiz.
