New info surfaces about the iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 jailbreak

Lots of new tidbits of information is beginning to surface regarding a potential jailbreak for iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4, and the future of jailbreaking with iOS 9, which will presumably be released in beta form after the WWDC keynote on Monday, June 8th, 2015.

iDigitalTimes' Cammy Harbison's interview with TaiG member Ray Xie, revealed that the TaiG team is setting its sights on iOS 9 with regard to future jailbreaks. Not long after that interview went live, news began to leak out that Pangu, the other Chinese team responsible for some of the more recent jailbreaks, was preparing a jailbreak release for iOS 8.3 right after the release of iOS 8.4.

So what's to make of all of this? Will we actually see an iOS 8.3 jailbreak released publicly? Will we have to wait until iOS 9 officially launches before another jailbreak surfaces? There's no way to be 100% sure about any of this, especially with the rumored implementation of the so-called rootless security mechanism. But one thing is clear, the interest in jailbreaking—at least from a hacker perspective—is still strong.

Developers of Camera+ launch new app ‘Vee for Video’

Camera+ developers Lisa Bettany, Scott Meinzer and Karl von Randow today announced a new app called 'Vee for Video.' It essentially hopes to accomplish what the popular Camera+ app has for photos on iPhone, for videos.

Bettany tells BGR that Vee was born out of the team's desire for an app that let you shoot, edit and share videos seamlessly. They considered adding video to Camera+ at one point, but ultimately decided to build a standalone app.

SwiftKey Keyboard updated with new Emoji, stability improvements to reduce crashes

SwiftKey Keyboard, my favorite third-party keyboard for iOS 8, was updated today, bringing it to version 1.3.3. The new release includes skin tone options for Emoji, several new Emoji offerings in categories like Flags and Family, and various improvements.

While improvements are nice, they typically aren't anything to get excited about. SwiftKey, however, says that 1.3.3 features "a number of stability improvements to reduce crashes." Given how crash-prone third-party keyboards are in the first place, this is huge.

New ‘Apple Music’ streaming service to feature three-month free trial

Apple's upcoming streaming music service will offer a lengthy free trial period to new users, according to the Financial Times. Citing sources familiar with the company's plans, the outlet says that 'Apple Music' will be free for the first 3 months.

Apple hopes the extended trial period will give users plenty of time to immerse themselves in the service, making it harder to cancel. For comparison, Spotify currently offers a 30-day free trial, and Rdio's Unlimited trial period lasts just 2 days.

Kabam teases upcoming RPG ‘Star Wars Uprising’ for mobile

Star Wars fans have a lot to be excited about this year. There's, of course, the new movie 'The Force Awakens' that's coming out in December, and a handful of new console games are on the way. There's also apparently a new RPG coming to mobile devices.

Publisher Kablam has begun teasing its upcoming role-playing game, Star Wars Uprising, which will debut on various mobile platforms later this year. It will serve as a bridge, connecting the events of Return of the Jedi and this year's new Star Wars film.

Apple looking to change 70/30 iTunes revenue split for media services

Apple is planning a departure from the long-standing 70/30 iTunes pricing arrangement it has with digital media companies, reports the Financial Times. According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple is discussing new commercial terms with a number of players in the video, music and news subscription space.

The split, which doles out 70% of app and media sales to content owners/creators and 30% to Apple for hosting and distribution, has been around since the iTunes Store first launched in 2003. Apple hopes the change can improve its relationships with media firms, and reassure regulators that it's not abusing its power.

Whenever a minimalist case is mentioned on iDB, someone always asks whether it has protection from drops. For the most part, minimalist cases don't really protect from anything significant, other than scratches on the backside. They offer protection in the most minimal of ways.

The Ringke Fusion is slightly less minimalist, but slightly more protective. Not only does it have dust caps to keep ports from getting dirty, but it also has added layers on the corners for a bit of drop protection.

Apple says half of top 100 U.S. merchants will accept Apple Pay this year

By the end of this year, about half of the top 100 merchants in the United States should roll out Apple Pay to their stores, Apple hopes.

A spokesperson told Reuters today that the firm is constantly in contact with these merchants, half of whom have expressed their intent to support Apple Pay for their customers, with “many more” merchants expected to adopt the wireless payment service the following year.

But as availability of both the device itself and the bands has been improving lately, the company is now inviting prospective buyers for walk-in try-ons at their local Apple Store, as indicated by MacRumors.
