Apple pulls Personal Pickup for new iPhones

Yesterday, iDB told you that Apple extended its Personal Pickup service to include the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and explained that shoppers can avoid crowds by ordering their handset online with same day in-store delivery. It would now appear that the company may have prematurely enhanced the service.

On Tuesday, the in-store pickup option disappeared from the online Apple Store for both new iPhone models. We've received more than a dozen tips and have since confirmed that Apple in fact did inexplicably pull Personal Pickup for both new handsets...

Apple during June's WWDC updated its MacBook Air lineup with the latest-generation Intel chips and related hardware bumps, leaving the rest of the Mac lineup intact. Today, the company has refreshed its iMac all-in-one lineup via a simple press release, clearing the stage for October iPads.

The upgraded internals include faster fourth-generation Intel Haswell platform sporting power-efficient quad-core CPU. Also new: better graphics, next generation Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage options.

iOS 7 Safari supports new shortcuts with external keyboards

Mobile Safari in iOS 7 has undergone some major under-the-hood changes which have vastly contributed to the overall speed increase in web page rendering times. The iOS 7 web browser is now nimbler, faster and greatly simplified, but that's not saying Safari doesn't pack in other improvements.

This includes the handy new Mac keyboard shortcuts. That's good news for people who use a Bluetooth keyboard with their iOS device as you can now open a new tab, close the currently active tab and even move the focus to the unified search/address bar using the familiar keystrokes...

Following mixup, Apple offers refunds to ‘Breaking Bad’ Season Pass buyers

Apple began sending out emails yesterday to folks who purchased the final season of "Breaking Bad" on iTunes, informing them that they'd be receiving a credit for the series' final eight episodes due to all of the confusion.

In August, fans of AMC's hit drama were outraged when they discovered that the 'Season Pass' they purchased for the show's final season was only good for the first eight episodes, and they'd have to pay again for the final 8...

Nothing really new here from what we'd already been told in the last weeks, but progress is being made, and that is encouraging. It looks like at this point, only a few selected devices are slowing the process down.

On the iOS 7 front, pod2g said last week he was more and more confident in a jailbreak for Apple's latest mobile OS.

Valve takes aim at your living room with SteamOS

Games developer Valve has built a nice little business around Steam, a digital distribution platform for Mac/PC titles, basically an App Store for cross-platform desktop games. Now, for some time we've been hearing whispers of a Valve-branded gaming hardware, especially with its CEO seeing Apple more of a threat compared to the console guys.

According to Valve, hardware makers can now build devices based on SteamOS, Valve's new and free Linux-based operating system for the living room gaming PCs (Android, much?). Of course, SteamOS comes with both the Steam distribution platform built-in and a whole new interface specifically designed with big screens in mind. Should Apple be worried?

Steve Jobs’ home where Apple was born could become historical site

The Los Altos, California home where Steve Jobs and partner Steve Wozniak first began building computers may be turned into a protected historical site, according to a new report from CNN.

Apparently the Los Altos Historical Commission is looking to conduct a "historic property evaluation" on the house, which is located on 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, as soon as next Monday...

FIFA 14 is now available in the App Store

iPhone 5s iMovie 1080p rendering twice as fast

Early Geekbench benchmarks of the iPhone 5s seemingly prove Apple's claim that the new 64-bit A7 chip provides two times greater CPU and GPU performance over its predecessor, the A6 package inside the iPhone 5. Specifically, the iPhone 5s Geekbench score (the new version of the Geekbench app supports 64-bit chips) is close to the early-2010 Mac mini model.

But how do benchmark scores translate into real-world performance in your favorite apps? Blogger Lex McFarley did an interesting head to head test using the iMovie app running on both an iPhone 5s and a previous-generation iPhone 5.
