Tech specs: iPad mini 3 vs iPad mini 2

Without much fanfare, Apple also announced the iPad mini 3 to replace the iPad mini with Retina display, now known as iPad mini 2. Unlike the iPad Air 2, the new iPad mini 3 doesn't defer much from its predecessor, at least not on the outside, besides the addition of Touch ID and a new color, as well as a new storage tier. If you want to pit both devices side by side, we have compiled this comparison of iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 2 tech specs.

Tech specs: iPad Air 2 vs iPad Air

Apple recently unveiled iPad Air 2, and while the new model is more evolutionary than revolutionary, there are still a few major differences between both the older and newer version of the device. Obviously, the form factor and Touch ID might be the most obvious differences between the two, but there are also a few differentiating factors, mostly internally. In this post, we'll show a comparison of the tech specs of iPad Air 2 and iPad Air.

You can now buy iMac with Retina 5K display from Apple’s website

Following today's announcement of the iMac with Retina 5K display, the machine is now available for purchase on Apple.com. Starting at $2,499, the base iMac with Retina 5K display model comes with a 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5,  8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, an AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory for superior graphics performance, and a 1TB Fusion Drive.

Tons of rock albums are currently on sale on iTunes

I don't know about you but I'm a big rock fan. From my punk rock roots to my alternative music adulthood, I've always been more attracted to loud guitars than electronic beats or vinyl disc scratches. While I listen to many different styles of music, rock & roll still is my go-to genre.

If like me you're a rock fan, or if you just like to listen to a little bit of everything, you'll sure want to have a look at this sale going on in iTunes right now on some major rock albums, all having been discounted to only $7.99.

YouTube app updated for larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens

Google's YouTube app for iOS has just been updated to support the larger screen sizes of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This update, which brings the app to version 2.13, also brings along a few bug fixes and stability improvements.

YouTube's app is one of Google most popular iOS apps to have been recently updated. Gmail and Chrome were also updated in the past couple of weeks to support iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The reports of retailers not supporting Apple Pay have been greatly exaggerated

With Apple Pay set to launch later this month with support from big retailers such as Macy's, Staples, Disney Store, and many more, there has been some drama building regarding the fact that Apple still has a lot of work to do to convince some big names to get on the Apple Pay bandwagon.

A post on the Daily Dot today exemplifies this, claiming that Pizza Hut, Chipotle, and H&M, Coach, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Sears, Kmart, BP, Starbucks, and more don't plan on offering support for Apple Pay.

This sure makes for great headlines, but this kind of post usually fails to omit that retailers aren't against Apple Pay, they're just not on board with updating their costly point of sale systems.

Activity by LogYourRun helps you visualize the intensity of your activity

I'm not a slug but I'm also far from being a health freak. You won't find me at the gym, and if you ever see me running, then call 911 because it means something went terribly wrong. Yet, with the introduction of the M7 coprocessor in the iPhone 5s which helps you keep track of how many steps you made in a given day, I became more aware of little things I could do to maintain my health. I quickly established a daily goal of 6,000 steps, which I usually track with Pedometer++, a beautifully simple step tracker.

Federico Viticci of Mac Stories recently introduced me to a similar application called Activity by LogYourRun. Just like Pedometer++, Activity tracks your steps but it also helps you visualize the intensity of your activity in a very original way.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback fined $10,000 for wearing Beats headphones at press conference

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for attending a press conference while sporting Beats headphones on Sunday, reports ESPN. The NFL, which entered an exclusive agreement with Bose last week, is contractually obligated to ban its players from wearing non-Bose headphones while on TV.

Kaepernick, who among many other NFL players has an endorsement deal with Beats, attended the press conference while wearing a pair of pink Beats headphones, likely in support of this month's breast cancer awareness.

Apple once again tops Interbrand’s Best Global Brands ranking

For the second year in a row, Apple tops Interbrand’s Best Global Brands ranking, an annual report that analyzes the brand value of the largest corporations in the world. Just like last year, Google scores the second place, right ahead of Coca Cola. Valued at $118.9 billion, Apple increased its brand value by 21%, while Google, valued at $107.43 billion, increased its brand value by 15%.

“Apple and Google’s meteoric rise to more than USD $100 billion is truly a testament to the power of brand building,” said Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s Global Chief Executive Officer. These leading brands have reached new pinnacles—in terms of both their growth and in the history of Best Global Brands—by creating experiences that are seamless, contextually relevant, and increasingly based around an overarching ecosystem of integrated products and services, both physical and digital.”

700,000 UDIDs of jailbreak tweaks pirates leaked

A list of 700,000 UDIDs of devices used to install cracked tweaks from a pirate repo have been leaked online a few days ago. The list of leaked UDIDs, which was apparently compiled several months ago, is available as a text file, and a Twitter account was specially created to tweet one UDID every few minutes to somewhat expose the pirates.

Besides trying to shame the pirates by exposing their UDIDs, this move doesn't represent much risk for the users whose Unique Device Identifier was leaked as it can hardly be tied to any personal information that could identify a user.

This silly keyboard lets you type using funky fonts

100 Fonts Keyboard for iOS 8 is not a new app but I just came across it earlier today while browsing the App Store. While it certainly isn't groundbreaking, I found it to be different from the other keyboards we had seen so far so I thought I'd share it with you. Before we even get started, let's clear things up. Unlike the name suggests, this app doesn't offer 100 different fonts as I counted only about 30 of them. Still, that is quite the selection.
