MusiXmatch brings the lyrics of your currently playing songs to Notification Center

MusiXmatch isn't a new application by any means, although I must admit I had never heard of it until this past week when I read about it on French blog iGen. The app has been around for quite some time but it was recently updated to bring its lyrics engine to Notification Center, where it displays the lyrics of your currently playing songs so you can sing along or just try to finally understand what the heck this song is all about once for all.

Assuming you have an internet connection, musiXmatch allows you to have direct access to the exact lyrics that are being sung in virtually any song in your library. This works from the musiXmatch app, or from its Notification Center widget.

This app predicts when you will die

Want to know the exact day you'll die? There is an app for that!

Deadline is an application that was recently released that aims at predicting the exact date you will die. After giving it access to your health and fitness data by allowing it to tap into the Health app. Alternatively, if like me you barely have any data in the Health app, you can also answer a few simple questions about your sleeping habits, your stress level, your exercise routine, etc, that will help Deadline predict the day you'll die more accurately.

But how does it work?

Apple changes its mind again, will allow calculator widgets in Notification Center after all

Yes. No. YES!

These three words sum up the situation of PCalc, a powerful calculator app that features a Notification Center widget, whose developer was asked by Apple yesterday to remove as it apparently wasn't in line with App Store rules.

Today, it appears that Apple has changed its mind (again), as TechCrunch reports that they've been "hearing that Apple is changing its course. The PCalc app and widget will remain in the App Store, and all calculator-type widgets will be allowed as well, an Apple spokesperson has confirmed to us."

So what gives?

Omnistat shows CPU, battery, memory usage and more stats straight from Notification Center

Omnistat is a new app available in the App Store that provides a quick glance at some basic stats of your iOS device from within the app itself, or from Notification Center via a Today tab widget. If the name sounds familiar, it's because Omnistat used to be a jailbreak tweak back in the days of iOS 5. The tweak has now matured into a legit application that is simply yet elegantly designed to show various statistics about your device such as CPU usage, running processes and more.

The iPhone’s financial impact

An excellent read by Jeff Sommer for the New York Times about the financial impact of the iPhone on the global economy.

“The iPhone is having a measurable impact,” said Michael Feroli, the chief United States economist for JPMorgan Chase. “It’s a little gadget, but it costs a lot and it seems that everybody has one. When you do the multiplication, it’s going to matter.” He estimates that iPhone sales are adding one-quarter to one-third of a percentage point to the annualized growth rate of the gross domestic product.

If you want to learn more about the economic ramifications of the iPhone, I recommend you read the whole piece.

Pangu v1.0.1 brings bug fixes to this limited iOS 8 jailbreak

The Pangu Team has released an update  to their iOS 8 jailbreak tool which was released out of the blue earlier today. Although no clear changelog is available, Pangu v1.0.1 brings a few bug fixes, including one that might have caused users who successfully jailbroke their device with the initial version to lose their photos.

Although promising, Pangu v1.0.1 is still more of a tool for developers rather than end users. As we noted earlier today, the current version of Pangu doesn't install Cydia, which hasn't been updated to bring compatibility for iOS 8. It simply allows developers to test out their tweaks and update them for iOS 8.

Pangu jailbreak for iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 released

The Pangu team has released a jailbreak for iOS 8 - iOS 8.1 devices today, just about 35 days after the launch of Apple's latest mobile operating system. The download link for Pangu for iOS 8 was briefly available on the official Pangu website before being pulled a few minutes later.

Although this is great news for jailbreakers, it does come with a few strings attached that make this initial iOS 8 jailbreak release somewhat useless for the time being.

iPad Air 2 photo gallery

It's thinner, lighter, more powerful, and it comes with Touch ID and a faster processor. This is iPad Air 2, a somewhat significant upgrade from its predecessor, while still not being a revolutionary device. What it is though is a beautiful device, which now comes in a new color: gold. We've gone through Apple's website to collect a large amount of iPad Air 2 photos for you to enjoy.
