Nostalgy: iPhone Runs Einstein Newton Emulator

This video should bring up lots of memories to our older readers. TUAW found some footage of an Einstein Newton emulator running on what seems to be an iPhone 3G or 3GS. The thing is painfully slow but the developer said he'll be working on it.

I love seeing those kind of useless hacks. I mean, realistically, no one will ever use that but it's just great some people have the passion and the skills to make it happen. Video after the jump.

GreenPois0n Jailbreak Gets Its Own Website

Last week we reported that GreenPois0n might become the next iOS 4.1 jailbreak, and it turns out it now has its own dedicated website over at www.GreenPois0n.com. A quick look at the whois information for this domain name shows that it was created on September 11, 2009 by an anonymous registrant.

Redmond Pie believes it's a sign that GreenPois0n is close to completion and that it might indeed be the next jailbreak for iOS 4.1. While that makes sense, I still have doubts for the simple reason that a website is no sign of a future release. We saw that with LimeRa1n before...

Apple Releases iOS 4.2 Beta

Apple just released iOS 4.2 Beta to developers. As 9 to 5 Mac noted, it's not only available for iPhones as you can also download iOS 4.2 Beta for iPad, which will bring over-the-air printing.

As usual when a new firmware comes out, it is recommended that jailbreakers and unlockers stay away from it if they don't want to lose the ability to jailbreak/unlock in the future...

What’s Your Favorite Jailbreak App for iPhone?

I always try to cover the latest jailbreak apps for iPhone here on iDB, and from time to time I stumble onto some real gems. But let's be honest, I don't know everything there is to know about jailbreak apps, and I think I might be missing a few good ones, which is why I'd like to know what your favorite jailbreak app is.

Let's put it this way... if you had to go to a desert island and you could only have one jailbreak app on your iPhone, which one would it be? I know, it's stupid but you get the idea...

Consumer Reports Say the iPhone 4 is Still Not Good Enough for Them

Back in July, Consumer Reports decided not to cite the iPhone 4 as a recommended product because of the antenna issue. Oddly enough, and despite being "not recommended", the iPhone 4 still held the top ranking of the smartphones category.

This was probably the cherry on top for Apple who decided to throw a special event where they pretty much said there was absolutely no problem with the iPhone 4 antenna, and to prove there was no problem, they gave away free cases to every iPhone owner...

iPhone 5G to Come to Virgin Mobile in January

Forget those cheesy rumors about a Verizon iPhone! According to a person with proven knowledge of Apple's future product plans, Apple will soon release a new version of its popular iPhone. According to our informant who'd rather remain anonymous, the new iPhone will be called iPhone 5G.

The iPhone 5G will be coming to Virgin Mobile just after the holidays. Sources familiar with the matter at Virgin Mobile confirmed that not only the iPhone 5G will be available on America's smallest network, but it will also come in a white version, which I remind you still has to be made available for the iPhone 4...

HDR Camera Enabler Brings HDR to Your iPhone 3G or 3GS

HDR Camera Enabler is a new application available in Cydia that supposedly brings the HDR camera feature to your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. I said "supposedly" because there is no way to test this mod until a jailbreak is available for iOS 4.1.

I really find it odd that this mod was released when there isn't even a jailbreak to support it. I guess it's all based on "theories" and it can't have possibly been tested out yet. Only time will tell whether it works or not...

Rock Your Phone is Dead. Long Live Cydia!

The news fell a couple days ago that Rock Your Phone had been acquired by Cydia. This is without a doubt the biggest business move ever made in the jailbreak community, and it is a clear sign of the potential of "underground apps".

I've never been a huge fan of Rock even though it had some really neat features. We'll all remember how fast it loaded as well as its backup feature, among others. Is this going to come to Cydia now that Rock is dead?

iPhone Used to Jailbreak A PlayStation 3

A hacker going by the name of NTAuthority has managed to jailbreak a PlayStation 3 using an iPhone running OpeniBoot, aka Android for iPhone. I love how creative people get in the name of hacking!

Just like when you jailbreak your iPhone, jailbreaking your PS3 doesn't come without any risk as Sony might ban you from the PlayStation Network. Oh well...

Breaking: Cydia Acquires Rock

ModMyI reports that SaurikIT LLC just acquired Rock Your Phone Inc. In other words, Cydia bought Rock. Cydia has always been the installer of choice for most of us, but Rock was slowly getting traction, especially for some of its advanced features like the ability to back up your packages.

If you didn't think the jailbreak community was a big business on its own, then it's time to think again. Just like in the App Store, there is a lot of money to be made from applications, especially for those offering a marketplace like the App Store and Cydia.
