Warning About RedSn0w Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1

The Dev Team released RedSn0w 0.9.7b1 this morning, an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.2.1. When we first reported about this updated version of RedSn0w, we advised you not to use because it is still in beta, and most importantly, comes with a few issues worth mentioning.

We still think that you should hold off and be patient. A more stable version should be released soon. In the meanwhile, if you are curious about what problems you might encounter after "untethering" your iPhone, here are some of the issues that have been reported:

Cydia Now Shows Your iOS 4.2.1 SHSH Blobs

If you load up Cydia today you will notice that it is now showing your SHSH blob for iOS 4.2.1. It's probably due to the recent release of RedSn0w 0.9.6b7, the long-awaited but complicated untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1.

If you don't see your 4.2.1 blobs in Cydia, maybe you should use TinyUmbrella and make sure you're 100% ready for any eventuality.

RedSn0w Untethered Jailbreak to Be Released This Weekend

Even though Comex said he wasn't sure he was going to be able to meet his Christmas deadline for an untethered jailbreak, it does seem we'll get a nice gift from the Dev Team after all. According to the Team's blog, an updated version of RedSn0w that implements a "backup plan" will be released and will deliver an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1.

Things seem to be rushed a bit as the Dev Team is looking for beta testers to run this RedSn0w untethered jailbreak and make sure every bug is taken care of before the public release...

A Look Back at Apple in 2010 [Video]

I don't know about you but 2010 has been a great year for me. I spent months traveling overseas with my fiancee, iDB tripled its readership, only good stuff. 2010 wasn't bad for Apple either.

The company sold zillions of iPads, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. The stock rose about 50%. Really Apple had a pretty good year. To illustrate this, YouTuber tszheichoi has made a short video that sums up major Apple news in 2010...

Jailbreak Drama: Who Leaked the SHAtter Exploit?

Looking at the drama going on between MuscleNerd and P0sixNinja on Twitter, I feel like I am watching a full season of the Young and the Restless. Quick heads up for those of you who didn't follow the whole conversation.

A few months ago, hacker pod2g found a bootrom exploit in iOS 4.0.1 which was quickly named SHAtter. Chronic Dev Team later started using SHAtter for their GreenPois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1. Then GeoHot came in the game with a new exploit that he was going to use no matter what in his LimeRa1n jailbreak. At this time, Chronic Dev didn't have a choice but to put SHAtter on the side for later, and use GeoHot's exploit.

Everything was going fine until rumors started going around that SHAtter had been leaked...

Looks Like We’re Not Getting an Untethered Jailbreak for Christmas After All

Did MuscleNerd spoke too fast when he said last week that we'd get an untethered jailbreak for Christmas? It sure looks like it when reading this tweet Comex sent out a few minutes ago saying that he was going to miss his Christmas deadline..

At this point, I'm not sure whether Comex is working on an untethered solution or a full new jailbreak tool (jailbreakme?) One thing is sure though, we might not get anything from him this Christmas...

Apple TV Sales to Reach 1 Million Units this Week

Apple issued a press release earlier today that the Apple TV was going to reach one million units sold sometimes this week. While the Apple TV is clearly not a top seller like the iPad or even iPhone would be, the one million milestone is a pretty important one.

iPhone 4 Unlock to Become a Priority for the Dev Team

A couple weeks ago we reported that the Dev Team was working on a baseband downgrade method that would allow for an easier iPhone unlock. This baseband downgrade method was supposed to downgrade any iPhone baseband (including 06.15.00) to a baseband version that can easily be unlocked with UltraSn0w.

Today, someone asked MuscleNerd on Twitter when this baseband downgrade would be out, and while the answer isn't exactly what most of you would expect, MuscleNerd gave us an indication about the Dev Team's priorities...

Next Version of RedSn0w to Allow Quick iPhone Untethered Jailbreak

If you decided to update to iOS 4.2.1 and jailbreak using RedSn0w, you most likely have a tethered jailbreak, which requires you to plug your iPhone in and kickstart it with RedSn0w every time you reboot. Very inconvenient.

We've had words for a while that the Dev Team was working on an untethered jailbreak, which MuscleNerd confirmed would be available before Christmas.

Today, the Dev Team's frontman gave us more information about this untethered jailbreak via a tweet in reply to someone asking if we'll have to fully restore the iPhone and run RedSn0w again in order to benefit from all the untethered goodness...

Epic Cheese Dock for iPhone

Say what? An iPhone dock made of cheese? Yes sir, you read that right. This is without a doubt the weirdest most original iPhone accessory I've ever seen, even though it's a little cheesy (haha, excuse me but I couldn't help it).

It is the second year that Ally Fontaine, the brilliant mind behind this cheese dock for iPhone, comes up with this accessory for Christmas. She explains...

iPhone 4 Unlock Available in A Month?

Last month the Dev Team released an update to their UltraSn0w tool which allowed to unlock the iPhone 3G and 3GS loaded with the latest iOS 4.2.1. The iPhone 4 was left out of the equation and unless you're still on baseband 01.59.00, you can't unlock this device yet.

Today, some good news was uncovered about an unlock for the iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 baseband 02.10.04 in a tweet sent out by Sherif Hashim. The iPhone hacker confirmed that an unlock for 02.10.04 will be available, most likely before January 16th...
