Verizon CEO Defends AT&T/T-Mobile Merger

If there's one thing I didn't expect to hear today, it's Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam give his approval to the AT&T/T-Mobile merger initiated earlier this year.

Of course, the potential business deal has been under scrutiny by the US Government, but AT&T intends to fight all the way to make the deal go through. Their argument? AT&T itself isn't happy with its network, and the company needs T-Mobile's network to increase its reliability. Surprisingly, Verizon agrees with that...

This Library Lets You Check Out iPads Instead of Books

Books are so pre-iPad era! Books are actually so passé that this Eau Claire, WI library decided to let its members check out iPads instead of books. Loaded with 1,000 eBooks and 10 audio books, you can check out one of the library's 44 iPads to use for 4 hours, or for a full 7-day period.

Even though some libraries have already stepped into the digital age by offering eReaders to its members, this seems to be the first time a library develops such a wide program...

Apple Plans to Loan iPads to Retail Employees

According to CNET, Apple is about to launch a pilot program in which they will loan iPads to retail employees. The loan program will initially start in Apple's San Francisco flagship store, and might extend to other cities.

Employees will be able to check out an iPad for a week, just like they would be able to check out a book from a library. The goal, of course, is to have Apple employees become even more familiar with the device so they can provide an even higher level of customer service...

Sprint to Cap Unlimited Tethering Plan Ahead of iPhone 5 Launch

It was only five days ago that I predicted Sprint would have to put an end to its unlimited data plan, and it seems that I was right. Following Verizon and AT&T's lead, a leaked internal document reveals that Sprint will start capping their unlimited tethering data plan to 5GB/month, starting October 2nd.

In views of all the recent hints that Sprint will get the iPhone, this move was most likely made to prevent future iPhone users from going over the top with data while using their device as a mobile hotspot...

Store Wars: A History of App Stores [Infographic]

Since its creation in 2008, Apple's App Store has changed the way we buy software. It also revolutionized the rest of the industry, with Google, RIM, Nokia and others quickly following with their own app marketplaces.

WebPageFX created an interesting infographic showing differences between the major app stores. Statistics include OS distribution, percentage of paid vs. free apps in each directory, average apps downloaded by device, average app cost, and total 2010 revenue from all apps sold...

Google Confesses That 2/3 of Mobile Searches Happen on iOS Devices

Former FTC official and new Google employee Suzanne Michel testified today before the Senate Judiciary Committee that all three major search engines had to submit a bid to Apple for becoming the default search engine in iOS.

During her testimony, she confessed that two thirds of all Google mobile searches are made from iOS devices, be it an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch...

Sprint Drops Another Hint About Getting the iPhone

Rumors have been going wild lately about Sprint getting the iPhone sometime next month. From installing signal repeaters around Apple Stores, to saying its network is ready for iPhone traffic, it almost seems inevitable at this point that the company will indeed get the iPhone.

Today, at an investors conference, Sprint Chief Executive Dan Hesse said that in order to reach their financial targets for the fiscal year, the company would need to get "a very strong fourth quarter"...

Former Music Bandit Kazaa Releases an iPhone App

When you hear "Kazaa", you probably think of the illegal peer-to-peer file sharing application that became so popular around 2001. What you might not remember is that the company took the legit route back in 2009 when it became a legal music subscription service.

The company recently launched an iPhone application which allows you to stream music, just like you can with Rdio, Pandora, or Spotify. The downside? There's a membership fee of $10/month to use the app...

When Will the iPhone 5 Go On Sale? Here’s What We Know

This morning, AllThingsD's John Paczkowski reported that Apple was set to unveil the iPhone 5 on October 4th. Paczkowski has a long history of breaking Apple news. Some even believe that Apple feeds him breaking stories from time to time. I guess my point here is that we can trust the guy.

Now that we're pretty sure that the iPhone 5 will be showed to the world on October 4th, the question on everybody's mind now is this: "When will we be able to purchase the iPhone 5?"

Apple at the Top of Customer Satisfaction Surveys Once Again

A recent survey of 70,000 US consumers by the American Customer Satisfaction Index shows that Apple is once again holding a comfortable lead in customer satisfaction over other computer OEMs.

This won't come as a surprise if you're a Mac owner. Having made a complete switch from PC to Mac myself over a year ago, I can't even fathom the idea of ever owning a PC again...
