Sparrow Mail Client Coming to the iPhone, Pending Apple’s Approval

If you are a Mac user, chances are you've at least heard of the Sparrow email client. The app is minimal compared to the bulky default Mail software, and features a simple user interface and quick load times.

Word on the street has been that the Sparrow team might be looking to bring Sparrow to the iPhone. Business Insider recently spoke with Dominique Leca, the co-founder of the popular email client, about the gossip...

Apple Was Given the App Store Trademark and URL

It's no secret that Apple is very protective of its App Store. Its submission guidelines have to be some of the toughest in the industry. The Cupertino company even took Amazon to court over the moniker.

But while you might know those stories, chances are you've never heard this next one. It's the tale of how Apple acquired the App Store's trademark and URL. No, it wasn't won in a high stakes poker game. It was actually given to Steve Jobs...

Apple Quietly Discontinues 99-Cent TV Show Rentals

Several websites reported yesterday that Apple has discontinued its TV show rental program. The service launched last Fall and just never really garnered support from the major networks. They felt that the $0.99 price point was too low.

TV Show rentals were available through both the iTunes Store and Apple TV, but that is no longer the case. And Apple's website has even been updated to remove mention of the rental option. So, what happened?

RapidContact: Quickly Dial or Text a Contact

You don't have to be jailbroken very long before you hear about Activator. The popular tweak allows you to initiate frequent tasks with button taps or on-screen gestures.

What's cool about Activator is that it's compatible with hundreds of other Cydia packages, including the one we're going to be discussing here — RapidContact. The tweak allows users to quickly call or text a favorite contact...

Apple Interested in TV Subscription Service

In a recent article about Tim Cook, The Wall Street Journal dropped an interesting tidbit about Apple's future plans to invade our living rooms. The article questioned if Cook was aggressive enough to muscle Apple into the TV industry.

As most of you know, Apple is rumored to be working on a television set. And there has also been ongoing speculation that it is thinking of launching its own subscription-based content service, worthy of competing against NetFlix or cable.

The Journal's article lends some more credibility to the latter theory by confirming Apple's interest in a "subscription TV service..."

AirPlay Mirroring Could be the Most Exciting Feature in iOS 5

AirPlay has traveled a rocky road over the last year or so. It just doesn't seem to be garnering much support from third party developers (hardware and software).  But that may all change with iOS 5's new Mirroring feature.

We told you about the iPad 2's mirroring capability back in June, but the feature seems to have greatly matured since then. Apple'n'Apps posted another video showing off the new iOS 5 option, and trust me, it looks awesome...

Purported Backplate of Next-Generation iPhone Surfaces

Earlier today, we saw photos of components that may or may not pertain to one of Apple's upcoming smartphones. The frame resembled that of an iPhone 4, but with a modified antenna.

Now another purported next-gen iPhone part has surfaced — the backplate. And like the aforementioned frame, it looks extremely similar to its predecessor. So how do we know it's a next-generation component? Because it says so...

iPad 3 Production to Start in October, Samsung Ousted as Supplier

For the past few months, we've been hearing rumors that Apple is going to release a 3rd tablet this Fall. It's supposedly going to be a complimentary "Pro" model to the iPad 2, and include a higher resolution display with better cameras.

However, recent reports of manufacturing issues have pushed the iPad 3 back to early next year. CENS "confirms" the delay with its latest report. The Taiwanese news outlet claims that the iPad 3 production won't start until October...

iPhone 5 Announcement to be Steve’s Swan Song?

We know, you get it, the man resigned. But what you may not see are all of the ramifications of his early exit. There's a lot of people in the world with a lot riding on Apple's success, and their world just got a whole lot scarrier.

Sure, Tim Cook has the business-sense to keep Apple afloat. But he seems to lack Jobs' creativity and showmanship. Can you imagine him unveiling a new product?

Steve Jobs Put in a Full Work Day Before Sending Out His Resignation

We know, the tech world has been blanketed with Steve Jobs-related stories over the last 24 hours. It seems more like the man passed away, rather than just merely relinquishing his role as Apple's CEO.

But in case you haven't noticed, it's a pretty big deal. Not only did the man turn a company around that was on the fringe of bankruptcy, he personally oversaw the production of some of our generation's most popular products.

That being said, another interesting story has surfaced regarding Jobs' exit. Apparently the ex-CEO, who's been noticeably absent from Apple's offices for the last 9 months, worked a full day in Cupertino before submitting his resignation...

Tim Cook Sends Message to Apple Employees: “Nothing is Changing”

The entire tech industry was rocked yesterday as one of the world's greatest CEOs said goodbye to his friends, employees and an entire community of fans. After a 13 year hot-streak, Steve Jobs stepped down from his leading position at Apple Inc.

Needless to say, tech pundits and analysts have been dreading this day for years. With Jobs gone, Apple's future would be up in the air a bit. Who could replace him? No one could ever replace Steve Jobs. But someone has, and his name is Tim Cook...

The Coolest Cat: Dev Team Bids Steve Farewell

Steve Jobs only sent his resignation letter out a few hours ago, but the tech world is already feeling the effects of his exit. Tech pundits, bloggers, and Apple fans have taken to the internet to share their thoughts on the CEO.

Even though it sounds like Steve will still be very involved in major decisions at the company, he will be missed, as evidenced by the several trending Twitter topics regarding his announcement. Even the Dev Team has turned out to pay their respects...
