The folks behind MyGreatFest, the world's first jailbreaking convention, have just announced that they have confirmed the date and location for its 2012 event: JailbreakCon.

And wait until you see this list of guest speakers...

Neither AT&T nor Verizon supporting 4G iPad hotspot yet [Updated]

Among the slew of new features Apple announced in its latest iPad yesterday was the personal hotspot. Just like with the iPhone, you'll be able to use the new tablet to share an internet connection with up to 5 devices.

This becomes even more appealing when you consider that the new slate is capable of 4G speeds — which is up to 10 times faster than 3G. But don't get too excited. It appears that there is confusion among the carriers...

OpenStreetMap admits it’s behind iPhoto for iOS mapping service

Yesterday we reported that Apple's new iPhoto app for iOS is using the company's own internal mapping solution instead of Google's. This was a big deal because Apple has used Google Maps in nearly everything for the last 5 years.

Well it looks like we got it partially right. The maps used in iPhoto's geotagging service isn't Google Maps. But it isn't Apple's either. As it turns out, the data is coming from an open-source mapping company called OpenStreetMap...

New iPhoto app doesn’t use Google Maps

Earlier today, Apple unveiled a new iPhoto application for iOS during its iPad 3 event. The app is essentially a mobile version of its popular photo editing and management software for the Mac.

While we've already outlined most of iPhoto's components, a new discovery has been made regarding one of its features. It appears that the app doesn't use Google Maps for any of its GPS-related tasks...

Everything you need to know about today’s iPad event

Apple's iPad event ended three hours ago, and things are just now starting to quiet down. As most of you know, today was a big day for the Cupertino company, who made a number of big announcements.

Apple introduced two new major products, along with some new software, and dropped some interesting info. And for those of you who had trouble keeping up with everything, we've created a nice little roundup...

Apple upgrades OTA download limit to 50MB

Although the App Store and all of its wonderful applications are accessible over a 3G network, there's a bit of a caveat. Apple prevents you from downloading larger applications when using anything but a Wi-Fi connection.

That limitation used to be a measly 25MB, meaning anything over that would prompt a pop up that would tell you to connect to a Wi-Fi network to download. But it looks like today, Apple has bumped that limit up to 50MB...

Apple to keep entry-level iPad 2 around for $399

It looks like a lot of our forecasts are materializing today, including the iPad 2 sticking around. We figured we'd see Apple continue to sell last year's tablet after today, with a bit of a price drop to appeal to a wider audience.

And that's exactly what it's doing. Apple just announced that it will be keeping the iPad 2 around for folks that aren't impressed with the new slate's features starting at just $399...

Apple introduces iPhoto for iPad

Apple has been slowly porting its popular suite of iLife applications from the Mac to iOS over the last 12 months. There's iMovie for iOS, and GarageBand. And now the company has just introduced iPhoto for iPad.

Just like its Mac OS counterpart, iPhoto for iPad is a photo management app that will "give you great new ways to browse through all of your photos, and has truly groundbreaking ways to edit those photos."

The new iPad has 10-hour battery, will run on LTE for 9 hours

Something the iPad has always been able to claim is great battery life. Both the first and second generations of the tablet have had a 10 hour battery — meaning you could practically use the thing for 10 hours straight before it died.

But with the new iPad's upgraded hardware, a lot of folks have wondered if it would be able to hold around that 10 hour mark. I mean, between a new Retina display, quad-core processor and 4G LTE, it can't possibly maintain great battery life. Can it?

The new iPad has a 5MP camera capable of taking 1080p videos

Apple has just announced its new iPad and is going down the list of its new features. We're now talking about the tablet's new backside camera and it looks like that, as expected, it's received a major update.

The camera system in Apple's new tablet is very similar to the setup in the iPhone 4S. It has a backside illuminated sensor, 5 element lens, IR filter, and ISP (Image Signal Processing) built into the slate's new A5X processor...

This is the new iPad

Finally. After months of rumors and speculation, it's finally here. Tim Cook has just unveiled the the new iPad. And though we feel like we've seen and heard enough about the device over the past few months to write a novel, none of that compares to the real deal.

As expected, the new iPad's hardware has received some major upgrades. Sure, it might look similar to its predecessor. But when you take a peek under its hood, you can see that the iPad 3 is an entirely different animal...

Tim Cook talks numbers at Apple iPad 3 event

Apple's iPad 3 event has begun, and the company's CEO Tim Cook has just taken the stage to get things started. Judging by his words, the theme of today's announcements is going to be "post PC products" (duh).

As with every Apple event, the company is kicking things off by talking about numbers. After all, numbers are what define whether or not a company is successful. And judging by this data, Apple's doing pretty good...
