Journalist tours Foxconn’s Shenzhen campus

If you were to ask someone what they thought of Foxconn today, chances are their response would be negative. And for good reason. Over the past few years, we've heard horror stories about the manufacturing giant regarding terrible working conditions and child labor, and we've seen the pictures of the windows with prison bars and the suicide nets.

And that's exactly the kind of scene James Fallows, a journalist for The Atlantic, prepared himself for, as he set out on a tour of Foxconn's famous Shenzhen campus. He was ready to see the dark, depressing work environment and the somber, joyless employees that he had read so much about in other reports. But it didn't go at all how he expected...

And according to a new report, Apple is also going to introduce a retooled third generation iPad next Tuesday. The updated tablet is said to feature the new Lightning connector, global LTE support and other improvements...

Study shows 85% of iOS users delete free games after one day

I don't consider myself a hardcore iOS gamer, but I'll try almost any recommended title once, as long as it's free. I'm sure there's more than 200 games in my App Store's Previous Purchases tab to back that up.

But looking at my iPhone 5's home screen, you'll only find a handful of them. That's because I tend to lose interest in games rather quickly. And according to a new report from Playnomics, I'm not alone...

Watch pod2g, MuscleNerd and others in HITB iOS panel discussion

Earlier this month, we told you about an interesting panel discussion that was going to take place at the Hack in the Box conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The panel consisted of MuscleNerd, pod2g, and other well known hackers. And they were going to be discussing iOS security.

But if you missed the live stream, never fear. The folks over at HITBSecConf have uploaded a video of the entire 30 minute long discussion and we've got it posted for you after the break. If you haven't seen it yet, it's really worth watching. There's a lot of interesting jailbreaking info...

Apple starts construction on enormous Oregon data center

Apple purchased a 160 acre plot of land in Prineville, Oregon from Oregon's Crook County back in February of this year for $5.6 million. And it immediately built a 10,000 square foot modular data center on the property.

Well this morning, reports are coming in that Apple has started work on its main data center at the Oregon location. It's begun clearing and flattening land to make room for one of two, 338,000 square-foot buildings...

AT&T voices concern over Sprint’s Clearwire deal

About this time last year, AT&T's plans to buyout T-Mobile were crumbling. Thanks to strong opposition from its competitors — namely Sprint, and the US government, the carrier was forced to withdraw its merger application from the FCC.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that AT&T is being vocal about the recently announced Softbank-Sprint-Clearwire deal. The carrier says it's worrisome that a foreign carrier will have control over such a large chunk of US airwaves...

Apple’s request to seal financial documents from Samsung trial denied

Apple must have really hated divulging all of those secrets during the high-profile patent trial against Samsung this summer. We saw everything from iPhone and iPad prototypes, to how Apple creates its products.

And it looks like we're about to learn some more interesting information, as Judge Lucy Koh handed down an order late last night denying Apple's motion to keep certain financial documents sealed from the public...

Sprint to take control of Clearwire without acquisition

Sprint is said to be in high-level negotiations with Clearwire, a wireless broadband provider, that would give it greater control over its long-time partner. The deal would give the carrier the ability to appoint a majority of the company's board members, without having to pony up cash for a buyout.

The news actually comes as a bit of a surprise, as many folks (especially investors) believed that Softbank's announcement  that it was going to take a controlling stake in Sprint from earlier this week would lead to a Clearwire acquisition. But apparently, the carrier had other plans...

Apple loses appeal in major UK patent case against Samsung

Back in July, the High Court in London ruled against Apple in a patent suit against Samsung, saying that consumers were unlikely to mistake its iPad with Samsung's Galaxy Tab because it "wasn't as cool."

As a result of the ruling, Judge Colin Birss ordered Apple to run advertisements on both its UK website and in British publications stating that Samsung didn't copy the iPad to correct the damaging impression.

Well, Apple might want to start planning its marketing campaign. Because it just lost the appeal...

iPhone accounts for nearly half of smartphone web traffic

The number of models in the iPhone family is extremely small compared to the amount produced by other manufacturers. But according to a new report, which is an update to Chitika's recent iPhone 5 study, Apple's handsets still account for nearly half of all smartphone-generated internet traffic...

Apple said to be acquiring media sharing startup Color Labs

It seems like Apple's on a bit of a shopping spree this week. Hot on the heels of yesterday's revelation that the company acquired web app firm Particle, comes another scoop about an acquisition.

A new report is out tonight claiming that Apple is about to buyout Color Labs, a Palo Alto-based social startup that allows users to share photos and videos through its Android and iOS apps...

Google invites press to October 29 Android event

Google has sent out press invitations this afternoon for an Android event to take place on October 29th. The shindig will kick off at 10 a.m. EST at Basketball City in New York.

The invitation itself doesn't give many clues as to what could be announced. But given the fact that the holidays are just around the corner, we're guessing it's new hardware...
