In this quick tutorial, we tell you which settings to turn off if you don’t want Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC to periodically show little recommendation popups about browser features, add-ons, extensions, and updates.
Firefox is a great browser that can do nearly everything Google Chrome and Safari can. And Firefox tries to tell you about its useful features with little popups, as the one shown in the image below.

These popups usually appear when you first install the app, update the browser, or are just browsing the web and doing regular things like looking for extensions (add-ons), printing pages, and such.
While sometimes useful, these popups can also be annoying, especially when you’re focused on something important. Plus, they can unwantedly make their way into the screenshots if you didn’t bother dismissing them.
Now, you can easily turn them off right when you receive one by clicking the arrow next to the ‘Dismiss’ button.

Or block the browser from showing them ever again in the future by following the steps below.
Turn off little recommendations and suggestion popups in Firefox
1) Open Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC.
2) Click the hamburger menu icon in the upper right corner and select Settings.
3) Select ‘Tabs and browsing’ in the left sidebar.
4) Scroll to the bottom and uncheck both switches under the Recommendations heading.
- Turning off the first switch stops extension recommendations.
- And turning off the second switch asks Firefox to stop recommending features as you use the browser.
Going forward, you should no longer see recommendation pop-ups in Firefox, ensuring a more distraction-free and uninterrupted browsing experience.
But remember to go through the new features screen after updating Firefox so you are up to speed on all the latest features and can use the browser to the fullest.
I use Firefox every day alongside Chrome and Safari. I love it especially for watching YouTube, as Firefox’s Picture in Picture is the best in my opinion.
