Find out how to cut out unwanted parts of a phone or FaceTime audio call recording on your iPhone and save just the meaningful portion.
You can easily record phone calls on your iPhone by tapping the three dots More button on the call screen, followed by Call Recording. Once you hang up or stop the recording, the audio file is saved automatically to the Apple Notes app.
Now, imagine you called a company’s customer care number, navigated through the computerized process, then waited for 10 minutes before finally speaking to a human agent. And after you finished talking, you were redirected to a customer survey line, which took another minute. If you want to send someone this phone call recording, you may want to exclude the beginning and end parts to keep the final audio recording file short and to the point. We’ll walk you through the right steps to do so.
Trim iPhone call recording to remove unnecessary parts
Follow these steps to cut out the beginning or/and end parts of a phone call recording.
1) Open the Notes app on your iPhone and go to the Call Recordings folder by tapping the back button (<) from the top left corner. You now have access to all the call recordings made on your iPhone.
2) Swipe left on a call recording entry and tap Share. Then, make sure it says ‘Send Copy’ next to the Notes app icon and select Voice Memos to import this recording to Apple’s voice recording app. If you don’t see the Voice Memos icon in the iOS Share Sheet, tap More to enable it.
3) With phone call recording added to the Voice Memos app, tap the wave icon to start the editing process.
4) Tap the three dots icon in the top left and select Trim.
5) Drag the left and right yellow endpoints with arrows (< and >) to exclude up to the desired time frame. Tap the triangle play button to listen to the recording, then adjust the arrow(s) again if needed.
6) Tap the Trim button to keep the part of the phone call recording inside the yellow outline, while excluding everything else. If you tap Delete, it will remove the part within the yellow area, which we don’t want for the purpose of this tutorial.
7) Tap Apply from the top, then tap the checkmark icon, and choose to save the file as a new recording or by replacing the existing recording. Don’t worry, as you still have one copy of this recording in the Notes app, so choosing either option won’t do any harm.
8) You now have the phone call recording trimmed to your liking, saved in the Voice Memos app. Tap the three dots icon and hit Share to send or export this audio file, as needed.
Trim other parts of the phone call recording on iPhone
If you want to remove parts other than the endpoints, add the Phone or FaceTime audio call recording to the Apple Files app by tapping Share > Save to Files. After that, use the Audio Editor or iMovie apps to trim out the unneeded parts.
