Readdle, an award-winning developer of productivity software from Ukraine, today rolled out an update to its excellent Documents app for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The ability to transcribe audio and video files is a major new feature in the latest Documents v8.11 update, which is now live on the App Store.

Readdle Documents can now transcribe long-form content

At launch, English-language transcription is supported but more languages will be added over time. With this feature, you can use Documents to easily turn long-form content into text that can be searched with keywords and shared with others.

But that’s not all. Documents can also differentiate between multiple people speaking when transcribing audio. This is called speaker-by-speaker transcription, and it’s an excellent feature for transcribing lectures, interviews and similar.

Your transcriptions are private

Transcription is processed directly on your device to protect your privacy. Nothing is sent to the cloud, and no internet connection is required for this tool aside from the initial download of the AI model that handles transcription.

Documents was around before Apple’s basic Files app and has amassed over 100 million users. With it, you can organize your files, watch movies, listen to music, open ZIP archives, work with PDFs, download MP3s, etc.

Recent updates brought new functionality like air gesture control during playback, streamlined inbox efficiency and a built-in audio editor, to mention but a few. For more info, read the Readdle blog or visit readdle.com/documents.

Readdle Documents: How to turn audio and video into text

To transcribe an audio recording, first import the file into Documents. Then, hit the Transcribe to Text button. And that’s all there’s to it.

When transcribing video, the app extracts the audio component from the video file (MP4, MKV and MOV formats are supported) and then transcribes the audio. As a cherry on top of an already sweet cake, you can edit, annotate and manage your transcriptions without leaving the app, saving you time and effort.

How to download Readdle Documents

Documents is free to download and try, but a Documents Plus subscription is required to unlock full functionality. You can download Documents from the App Store free of charge and try out all the features during a free trial period.

Audio transcription is available to all users of the app, while video transcription and other advanced features require Documents Plus, which starts at $10/month.
