Misaka v8.2.3 update adds support for iOS versions 15.7.2-15.8.1

Misaka, the premier package manager app for installing hacks and add-ons via the MacDirtyCow (mdc) and Kernel File Descriptor (kfd) exploits, has received an important update on Friday that brings the project up to version 8.2.3.

The latest update, announced via a post shared to X (formerly Twitter) by project lead developer @straight_tamago, introduces preliminary support for iOS & iPadOS versions 15.7.2-15.8.1 by way of the puaf_landa kfd exploit method, ensuring that more iPhone and iPad users can take advantage of the hacks and add-ons that Misaka brings to the table.

This is an important update, because before today, iOS & iPadOS 15.7.2-15.8.1 users couldn’t install hacks and add-ons from Misaka. Why? Because the MacDirtyCow exploit caps off at 15.7.1 before resuming again at 16.0-16.1.2, while the kfd exploit was concentrated primarily on 16.0 and later (until now). With puaf_landa, even the latest iOS & iPadOS 15 releases can be supported until Apple patches that.

It should be noted that iOS & iPadOS 15.7.2-15.8.1 support only applies to hacks and add-ons and that it isn’t relevant to installing TrollStore. Those looking to install TrollStore on iOS or iPadOS 15.7.2-15.8.1 can instead use TrollMisaka.

The full change log for Misaka v8.2.3 is as follows:

– Support iOS 15.7.2 – 15.8.1
– ColorfulX @Lakr233

And it’s also worth noting that there was another update earlier in the week in the form of v8.2.2, but it wasn’t significant enough to make a post on. While we’re reporting today’s news, we should mention that version 8.2.2 includes various UI fixes, but none to write home about.

If you’re already a Misaka user, then you can download and install the latest release over your existing installation to apply the latest changes. New and prospective users should download and install the latest version from the start.

The latest release can be had from the project’s GitHub page, and for those wondering, Misaka supports installing hacks and add-ons on all iOS & iPadOS versions from 15.0 to 16.6.1.
