PureKFD v5 brings puaf_landa support, removes Misaka support, re-writes specific parts, & more..

PureKFD, one of the major package manager apps that exists to install hacks and add-ons on devices vulnerable to the MacDirtyCow and kfd exploits, received a large update on Monday, officially bringing the project up to version 5.

PureKFD v5 release.

According to an announcement shared by lead developer Lrdsnow in the project’s official Discord server, PureKFD v5 brings with it the following changes:

– Re-written user interface
– Removed Misaka support
– Re-written system application
– Added support for puaf_landa
– And more…

As it would seem, PureKFD has added support for the kfd exploit’s puaf_landa method, which means that the package manager app can now be used on firmware up to and including iOS & iPadOS 16.6.1 instead of 16.5 and below.

Another important change is the team’s decision to stop supporting Misaka repositories. The team feels that many repositories now support PureKFD, so having Misaka support now seems unnecessary. This also makes it possible for PureKFD to be fully open-sourced.

Other changes in this update include a re-written user interface and a re-written system application, both of quick contribute to performance improvements for end users.

In a side note, Lrdsnow also said that they’re likely moving on from PureKFD to work on a new project, nearly echoing the sentiment shared by Misaka lead developer @straight_tamago yesterday when they announced that Misaka would soon be EOL (end of life) given that people were moving to semi-jailbreaks with tweak injection instead. PureKFD undoubtedly sees the same writing on the walls.

In any case, those who are currently using PureKFD can download the latest .ipa file from the GitHub page and install it over their existing installation with a sideloading method such as Sideloadly or AltStore or the TrollStore perma-signing method to take advantage of the latest changes.

If you’re not already taking advantage of PureKFD, then you can follow the tutorial below to get started with it for the first time:

Add-ons supplied by PureKFD support the MacDirtyCow exploit on iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.1.2 and the kfd exploit on iOS & iPadOS 16.6.1 and below. PureKFD can also be used as an installation vector for TrollStore 2 on arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.6.1.
