The upcoming accessory will appeal to videographers and photographers who require a compact flash storage enclosure with USB-C to take wherever they go.

It takes advantage of the NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) protocol and the M.2 connector to access the internal solid-state storage drive (SSD). This is crucial in achieving high throughput and low latency, and you can use this accessory as an external drive for capturing ProRes LOG video with an iPhone 15 Pro.

The enclosure is launching on Kickstarter on January 3, and DockCase sent us prerelease information to share with our readers before launch.

This is actually an upgraded version of the existing DockCase Pocket M.2 NVMe Smart SSD Enclosure with a few added tweaks. For starters, there are 1/4″ screw holes to mount the accessory on a smartphone tripod for seamless integration with your iPhone 15 Pro and other photography equipment.

The pocketable SSD enclosure also features power loss protection and read-only mode, preventing accidental deletion of important data.

DockCase has earned a reputation for building functional products with eye-catching designs in a minuscule package—and the Dockcase Pocket M.2 NVMe Smart SSD Enclosure-Photography Edition, as it’s called, is no exception.

Pocketable and beautiful

It accepts the smallest 2230 size NVMe M.2 drives, with a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 10 gigabits per second (USB 3.2 Gen 2). A braided cable will be included in the box, but you’ll need to provide your own SSD, up to two terabytes.

And thanks to an internal capacitor, you won’t lose any data in case of power loss or the drive suddenly disconnects. There’s also a built-in display to show stats like read and write speed, input voltage, the remaining life of your SSD, its temperature, etc.
