Recast AI, Invite, Svegliare, and other apps to check out this weekend

It’s the weekend again, so we’d like to welcome you back to another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some great picks for you including an AI summary app for long articles, an app for finding local house parties, and the ultimate alarm clock. And as always, we’ve selected a fun game for you to check out.

Recast AI: Summary Podcasts

Sifting through the latest barrage of AI-infused apps can be a bit of a slog, but every once in a while you stumble across gems like this one. It’s called Recast AI, and it aims to turn long reads into short listens. That’s right, if you see a lengthy article you’d like to read, but just don’t have the time, save it to Recast. The app converts lengthy articles into short, easy-to-absorb audio clips that you can listen to on the go. What’s more, you can browse and listen to other recasts folks have submitted. I’m sure we’ve covered something like this in the past, but I’ll say it again: what a clever idea.

Invite – Party Around You

Ok people, you’re really going to have to keep an open mind with this one. Invite is an app for organizing and attending house parties around you. If you want to be a guest, just sign up to receive invitations, and you’ll have 24 hours to decide if you want to attend. Invitations are evenly distributed between men and women, so every event has a good mixture. The app also includes safety features and a ratings system, to ensure worry-free fun. Again, I am sure we have seen something similar to this before, but what a cool idea — especially if you’re the social type and live in a safe area.

Svegliare

Oof, what a name. Apparently it means ‘to wake up’ in Italian, but I just sound drunk every time I say it: Svegliare. Anyway, this app is for people who have a hard time waking up in the morning. It’s very powerful and offers a ton of interesting features that not only help you wake up, but get you moving. There are challenging wake-up tasks that range from solving math problems, riddles or puzzles, to answering trivia questions. You can customize the alarms and sounds, your wakeup schedule, and even the interface. Svegliare — ok, now I just sound like Brad Pitt in Inglorious Basterds when he has to use the fake Italian accent. Sveg-li-ar-e!

Last Pocket

Last Pocket! You know, like the Hot Pockets jingle. Anyway, Last Pocket is essentially a mix of pool, miniature golf, and a physics puzzler like Cut the Rope. Each level is like a hole at Putt-Putt, where you must get the ball around all of the obstacles and into… the hole. You can accomplish this by arranging wooden planks around the level to help ricochet your ball in the right direction. It sounds complicated, but it’s actually pretty easy to play — though the holes can get challenging. We like the quirky artwork and sounds, and the addictive gameplay. Be sure to check it out this weekend. Last Pocket!
