  • Apple’s stores are money-printing machines, with regular locations bringing in on average $45 million yearly and flagship ones more than $100 million.
  • Apple’s first two retail stores in India have exceeded expectations, bringing in more revenue than any electronics store in the 1.4 billion people country.
  • Small wonder that fifty new Apple stores are planned over the next four years, including a new one at the Battersea Power Station coming online June 15.

Apple planning 50 new or remodeleed stores

All told, the Cupertino tech giant wants to open as many as fifty new or rebuilt stores through 2027, including locations in Shanghai and London.

Mark Gurman, Bloomberg:

Regular stores typically generate more than $40 million annually, while Apple Store+ locations bring in over $45 million, according to internal data. The flagships generate more than $75 million, while the flagship+ sites make over $100 million annually.

New stores are planned in China and other parts of Asia. At the same time, Apple will overhaul some of its flagship locations in the United States and Europe.

Through 2027, the iPhone maker is discussing opening 15 new stores across the Asia-Pacific region, five locations in Europe and the Middle East, and four additional outlets in the United States and Canada.

And:

The company is also aiming for six revamped or relocated stores in Asia, nine in Europe and 13 in North America. In total, the company is proposing 53 new, relocated or remodeled stores over the next four years.

The online Apple store is also expanding, having recently launched in Vietnam.

Record-breaking sales via Apple stores in India

Apple had long relied on small shops and specialized electronics outlets for Indian sales. In April 2023, the company finally opened its first two retail stores in the country in Delhi and Mumbai. Apple has done its research because these inaugural stores were met with great enthusiasm from prospective shoppers.

India Times and Business Standard report that the stores earned monthly sales of over 220-250 million rupees (₹22-25 crore) each, or two times the highest revenue for an electronics store in the country during the non-Diwali period.

This is despite Apple’s higher prices and the generally lower buying power of Indian customers, who are more price-sensitive than their US counterparts.

Of course, higher-priced products generate more revenue, but these stores reportedly remain crowded on any given day. The reports say that Indian sales have far exceeded Apple’s internal estimates.

In effect, Apple operates India’s largest electronics retail store by sales.
