Apple releases iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6

Apple is currently beta testing iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, with plans to launch the major software updates later this year. However, before that can happen, there’s one more relatively minor update for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 on the books. And today’s the day to get it installed on your device(s).

The company has launched iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 to the public today. As you can probably guess from the version number, and the fact that Apple has an even bigger update waiting in the wings, this one’s minor in the grand scheme of things. However, there are some new additions added to the mix.

iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 adds the ability to restart a live sports event while it’s in progress. It also adds the ability to rewind, fast forward, or pause the game, too. Dive storage should show the proper amount of space available within the Settings app, fixing a bug that could show the on-device’s storage was full even when it wasn’t.

There are a couple of other tweaks to help with overall usage as well, including patching a crashing bug that could impact using Apple Books.

Here’s the official changelog:

iOS 15.6 includes enhancements, bug fixes and security updates.

  • TV app adds the option to restart a live sports game already in-progress and pause, rewind, or fast-forward
  • Fixes an issue where Settings may continue to display that device storage is full even if it is available
  • Fixes an issue that may cause braille devices to slow down or stop responding when navigating text in Mail
  • Fixes an issue in Safari where a tab may revert back to a previous page

Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website:

Along with iOS 15.6, Apple also released HomePod Software 15.6 as well. With this update, the HomePod now supports Japanese, Mandarin, and Cantonese voice recognition.

iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 are free updates, as is par for the course. They are available beginning today. Apple is also releasing macOS 12.5, watchOS 8.7, and tvOS 15.6.
