CoolStar defeats AMFI on iOS 15.0.1 as wait for iOS 15 jailbreak continues

Good news has surfaced regarding the progress of the Odyssey Team’s rootless iOS & iPadOS 15 jailbreak Wednesday morning after lead developer CoolStar took to the Sileo / Taurine / Odyssey Discord channel to tease what appears to be progress in defeating Apple mobile file integrity (AMFI) on iOS & iPadOS 15.0.1.

In a nutshell, AMFI is one of several security mechanisms employed by Apple to help thwart jailbreaking. It verifies the integrity of files in the operating system to help filter verified code from unverified code – with the latter obviously referring to jailbreak-related or even malicious code.

Since CoolStar appears to have defeated AMFI for iOS & iPadOS 15.0.1, this means the Odyssey Team is only step closer to achieving their rootless jailbreak. Worth noting, however, is that the team plans to support iOS & iPadOS versions 15.0-15.1.1, so there’s still a lot more work and testing to do before anything will be ready.

Additional security barriers in iOS & iPadOS 15.2 and later mean that jailbreak developers will have to jump through even more hoops to achieve a jailbreak. At this point in time, no one has outwardly committed to developing a jailbreak for any firmware newer than iOS or iPadOS 15.1.1.

Still, there is no ETA for the Odyssey Team’s upcoming rootless iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 jailbreak. Members of the team continue to work diligently on its progress even while launching new updates for the iOS & iPadOS 14-based Taurine jailbreak with support for the new indefinite Taurine app signing mechanism.

iDB will continue to keep our readers updated as more details surrounding the elusive iOS & iPadOS 15 jailbreak surface, so stay tuned!
