New unreleased Macs surface in a regulatory filing as Apple’s rumored March 8 event nears

Three unreleased Mac computers have popped up in a regulatory filing ahead of Apple’s spring product reveal, likely to happen on International Women’s Day on March 8.

  • Three unreleased new Mac models have appeared in the Eurasian Economic Database
  • The machines are listed with identifiers that don’t match any current models
  • At least one new Mac could be unveiled at Apple’s online-only event
  • Apple is readying several new Macs for launches across 2022

New Mac computers filed in the Eurasian Economic Database

French blog Consomac spotted a new regulatory document Apple had filed with the Eurasian Economic Database, which the company is required to do by law ahead of official launches in the region. The database lists products selling in the region that use encryption technologies. Read: How to encrypt and password protect folders on Mac

The Cupertino company listing these unreleased Macs along with these identifiers:

  • A2615
  • A2686
  • A2681

No current Macs match the listed model numbers. In other words, the filing is for unreleased Mac models. All three machines are listed as running the latest macOS Monterey software. One of these models is described as a notebook computer.

Even though Apple doesn’t provide additional details, we can safely speculate that the three unreleased machines use Apple silicon rather than being Intel-based.

Which new Macs will Apple unveil in spring 2022?

Now, Apple said transitioning all Macs to its own silicon would take two years to complete, with the deadline expiring by the end of 2022. The listed models are almost certainly new Intel silicon versions of their Intel-used counterparts. But which ones?

Apple is expected to update the M1-based Mac mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac with an upcoming M2 chip. On top of that, some Intel-based Macs are due for an Apple silicon treatment, such as the 27-inch iMac and the Mac mini workstation. Moreover, the Mac mini and MacBook Air are expected to be redesigned this year.

Reliable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claims that “at least one” new Mac will be introduced during Apple’s online-only event. The product reveal is said to be happening sometime in March, probably on Tuesday, March 8, which is International Woman’s Day.

Any other surprises for the March 8 event?

Apple could also officially announce other new products during the likely March 8 presentation, such as the next iPhone SE with 5G support and an updated iPad Air. Conveniently, Apple just a few weeks ago registered new model numbers for unreleased iPhone (A2595, A2783 and A2784) and iPad models (A2436, A2696, A2759, A2437, A2591, A2757, A2761 and A2766) in the Eurasian database register.
