Apple TV+ murder-mystery comedy ‘The Afterparty’ set to premiere January 28, 2022

In June of last year, we heard that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) were working on a new murder-mystery comedy, and that it would be coming soon to Apple TV+. But, 2020, and most of 2021, was pretty rocky. Which meant a wait was inevitable. But, that’s almost finally over, as we finally have an actual premiere date to circle on the calendar.

Which is at least a little better than just a premiere month. Apple confirmed The Afterparty would debut on the video streaming service sometime in January of next year. Along with the announcement, it also tacked on the first official teaser, giving us a taste of what to expect. Today’s news tells us that the series will premiere January 28, 2022.

There are eight episodes in the first season. Apple TV+ will premiere not one, not two, but three of those episodes on day one. Each subsequent episode will arrive on the streaming service the following Friday until the first season wraps up.

You can check out that first teaser trailer above. We’re still waiting for the first official trailer, which should give us more information on the story (and a few more jokes).

Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Sam Richardson (Veep, the upcoming Hey, Jack! The Kindness Show), Zoë Chao (Love Life), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Ben Schwartz (Space Force), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag), Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), and John Early (Search Party) all star in the series.

The Afterparty has an interesting setup. Each episode in the season will be from a different character’s perspective, all of the same night:

The Afterparty is a murder-mystery comedy set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each of the eight episodes will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.

Miller is taking up the showrunner duty for the series, while also co-executive producing alongside Lord through their production studio, Lord Miller.

So, we finally know when we’ll be able to get to watch The Afterparty. Are you looking forward to checking this one out?
