Apple TV+ shares a first look at the upcoming dark comedy series ‘The Shrink Next Door’ starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd

In June of this year, Apple TV+ offered the first teaser trailer for the upcoming dark comedy series The Shrink Next Door. At the same time, the streaming service was confirming to any would-be viewers that they’d be able to start watching the show starting November 12, 2021. And now that that date is fast approaching, Apple’s drumming up some more awareness.

Apple TV+ today released a new first look featurette for The Shrink Next Door, the dark comedy starring Will Ferrell (Anchorman) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man & The Wasp). The show is based on the podcast of the same name from Wondery, and tells the true story of a man named Marty Markowitz (played by Ferrell) who enlists the help of a therapist, played by Rudd.

When Apple shared the first official trailer back in October, it brought with it a single, foreboding question: “What happens when the man tasked to help improve your life decides to take it over?” We’ll probably find out at least one potential answer by the end of the first season, one can imagine.

With this featurette, we get to see plenty of footage we’ve seen in the first teaser and official trailers. However, there is some new footage as well sprinkled throughout. Plus, as is par for the course, these first looks are behind-the-scenes views of what’s to come, while including some input from the cast and crew for good measure.

The Shrink Next Door is billed as a limited series, a dark comedy that will tell the true story of Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, the “therapist to the stars.” That story was originally told in 2019 through a podcast, and now it’s getting the TV treatment for Apple TV+. Rudd will be playing the role of Ike, while Ferrell is playing Martin “Marty” Markowitz, one of Ike’s longtime patients. During the course of the series, we’ll watch as Ike “takes over” Marty’s life. What starts as a normal doctor-patient relationship quickly devolves into something much, much worse.

The upcoming series will premiere its first three episodes on Friday, November 12, 2021. Each new episode will premiere the following Friday until it wraps up.
