Apple TV+ shows off the official trailer for dark comedy ‘The Shrink Next Door’ starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd

Apple TV+ already has its fair share of content that can be classified as a “dark comedy,” but apparently the streaming service isn’t quite done adding to that list. We’ve known for quite some time that The Shrink Next Door would be coming soon to Apple’s original video streaming service before the end of this year. The company’s even teased the limited series already. But now we have an official trailer.

As is par for the course with these things, the first teaser trailer was meant to just give us a taste of the upcoming series. Hint at what’s to come. Tease us, if you will. But, with the first official trailer, Apple’s giving us more to go on. Showing off more of the story around that single question, “What happens when the mask tasked to help improve your life decides to take it over?”

The official trailer isn’t going to give everything away, even with its nearly two-and-half-minute runtime. But it definitely gives us plenty of Will Ferrell (Anchorman) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man and the Wasp). Here’s the trailer:

The Shrink Next Door is billed as a limited series, a dark comedy that will tell the true story of Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, the “therapist to the stars.” That story was originally told in 2019 through a podcast, and now it’s getting the TV treatment for Apple TV+. Rudd will be playing the role of Ike, while Ferrell is playing Martin “Marty” Merkowitz, one of Ike’s longtime patients. During the course of the series, we’ll watch as Ike “takes over” Marty’s life. What starts as a normal doctor-patient relationship quickly devolves into something much, much worse.

In February of this year, we reported that Sarayu Blue (No Tomorrowhad joined the cast. In addition to Blue, Ferrell, and Rudd, The Shrink Next Door will also see Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), Casey Wilson (Happy Endings), and others.

The upcoming dark comedy series is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 12, 2021. Are you planning to check this one out?
