New video shows the original Magic Keyboard paired with the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro

Earlier this year, at its Spring Loaded event, Apple unveiled the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display. At that same event, Apple also unveiled a new Magic Keyboard for the large tablet (along with a white variant), and confirmed that the new iPad Pro is actually 0.5mm thicker than the model it’s replacing.

Which is what led Apple to launch a new Magic Keyboard accessory for the tablet, adjusting for the new device’s slightly larger size. Which led to the confirmation at the time that the original Magic Keyboard wouldn’t work with the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. With its $350 price tag, that led many owners less than happy with Apple’s decision to leave them behind, especially considering the original Magic Keyboard only launched in 2020.

It did not take Apple long to clarify the situation, though. According to the company, the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro will technically fit within the original Magic Keyboard. And the accessory should work just fine with the tablet. However, it won’t offer a “precise fit”, which could cause some issues for daily use.

So, if you want that perfect fit, the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro should probably go with the new Magic Keyboard, if you want to stick within Apple’s accessory ecosystem, that is.

But it looks like the OG Magic Keyboard will probably be just fine for most people, as revealed in a new video which you can watch above. In this video, YouTube user “JustVids” showcases a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro (model number A2378), paired with an original Magic Keyboard (model number MXQU2LL/A), via 9to5Mac. The new iPad Pro is attached to the original Magic Keyboard, with the angle adjusted, the overall fit examined, and it all seems to work just fine.

Even after being closed, it all looks like it will work well enough for most owners of the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The owner doesn’t shake the tablet while it’s in the case, but it does look like it should do well enough to protect the tablet.

But, what do you think? Official reviews for the new iPad Pro are expected to arrive this week, and it’s possible some of them will address the OG Magic Keyboard, too.

Did you buy a new iPad Pro and the new Magic Keyboard? Or are you going to stick with the OG keyboard case for your new tablet?
