The new option is called the Forté, and it’s available beginning today from Twelve South’s website, as well as Apple’s Online Store. It’s priced at $40. For that price you get a stand with an adjustable platform. It is technically a wireless charging stand, but to make that happen you’ll need to provide your own MagSafe Charger charging puck (preferably Apple’s, it seems).
Using Apple’s MagSafe charger will provide up to 15 watts of wireless charging power. The stand’s adjustable platform can move up to 70-degrees, laying down completely flat. It’s in this orientation that makes the charging stand suitable for AirPods and AirPods Pro with a wireless charging case. Of course, you can also set down an iPhone 11 –or any iPhone with wireless charging support– on the flat surface to wirelessly charge the smartphone, too. (But those devices don’t have MagSafe, so don’t try to wirelessly charge an older iPhone when the stand’s at an angle!)
That MagSafe technology also means the Forté can hold an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max in either landscape or portrait mode.
There is a small cutout groove in the stand of the wireless charging stand, which is big enough to house the MagSafe Charger’s thin cable. It won’t be completely hidden by any means, but, at least near the stand itself, it should be out of the way for daily use. The base of the stand is also big enough to host your AirPods or AirPods Pro while they are in their case, but the base itself won’t charge them.
The Forté will be making its way to physical Apple Stores in the near future, too.
