Apple launches a neat new fitness challenge for Apple Watch wearers in India

Apple has launched a new fitness challenge in India that comes with an interesting twist.

Dubbed “Get Active India,” the challenge starts February 15 and runs through March 14. Previous challenges typically awarded users with virtual stickers for FaceTime and iMessage.

While this one will also earn you a virtual medal in the Fitness app, this is the first such challenge where people can choose to represent their own city on the country’s leaderboard.

How the scoring works

As explained by The Indian Express:

Participants get one point for each stand hour, with a maximum of 14 Stand points per day. There are also points for Move and Exercise. Earning a total of 40 points a day gets you a Bronze badge, while 60 points a day gets you a Silver badge. To get a Gold badge, users must accumulate 80 points daily.

The challenge is a co-operation between Apple and its local distributors Redington and Ingram.

How to participate in the new challenge

To participate, you need to download the third-party “Challenges” app from the App Store.

With the app installed on your device, simply enter the code “India” and pick a city that you’d like to represent. The following cities are listed in the app: Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Lucknow. All the other cities are lumped together into the “Rest of India” category.

You can also track your progress in the app.

If you regularly participate in these Apple Watch workout challenges, you may want to brag about your achievements in the real-world by getting yourself physical magnetic enamel pins that resemble digital medals earned in the Fitness app.
