The MagSafe Duo hinge area might wrinkle over time if the charger is kept in the folded position

Apple’s cautioned customers in a new support document on its website that the soft covering of its MagSafe Duo charger might experience normal wear and show wrinkles over time.

The document covers using a MagSafe Duo Charger with the iPhone 12 models and Apple Watch, noting that the hinge area might wrinkle over time, even more so should the charger be mostly kept in the closed position. That’s especially true when leaving the charger in the folded position and exposed to direct sunlight or left inside a car on a very hot day.

Here’s a relevant excerpt from the support document:

As with most soft materials, the covering of accessories might experience normal wear over time. The hinge area of your MagSafe Duo Charger might wrinkle over time if kept in the folded position. Leaving your MagSafe Duo Charger in a very hot environment (like the inside of a car on a hot day) in the folded position might lead to more visible, deeper wrinkles in that area. This doesn’t affect the functional performance of the accessory.

The support document also confirms that both MagSafe and MagSafe Duo chargers limit power delivery to 12W when used with the iPhone 12 mini whilst clarifying that Apple’s older 29W USB-C power adapter is incompatible with the MagSafe Duo because it does not support the new USB Power Delivery 3.0 protocol that the MagSafe Duo charger is based on.
