Mayday, More, Abyss, and other apps to check out this weekend

Apps of the week

In this week’s episode of our Apps of the Week roundup, we have a messaging app for urgent news only, a video chat platform for fun, new virtual experiences, and a sharp read-it-later client. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.

Here is an interesting concept: a messaging app made JUST for urgent and important messages. It’s called Mayday, and it’s designed for those that are tired of being bombarded by text notifications. The developers say messages are encrypted and erased within 24 hours of receiving a reply.

More is an app for creating virtual, impromptu get-togethers with people around the world. These virtual gatherings can include everything from learning to mix drinks, to learning to dance, to having a group dinner. You can choose from curated activities, or create your own!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new read-it-later app, and Abyss looks pretty good, so I thought it was worth mentioning. This is an app for storing all of those links that you either want to bookmark or you just don’t have time to get to now. Features instant search, cross device sync, and more.

Dungeon Deep

If you’re looking for something a little less intense, check this out. Dungeon deep is a fast-paced rouge-like puzzler that casts you as a dwarf, chasing after mead and gold by adventuring through tombs and caverns. It’s single-player with 120+ unique skills to learn and customizable characters.
