You can now order the new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro ahead of launch next week

Apple unveiled the new Magic Keyboard with a built-in trackpad alongside the new iPad Pro models in mid-March. At the time, the launch date for the accessory was listed as sometime in May, but it looks like Apple is ready to start orders a little early.

On Wednesday, the company announced that the Magic Keyboard for the 2020 and 2018 iPad Pro models is now available to pre-order ahead of launch next week.

Priced at $299 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $349 for the 12.9-inch tablet, this is far from being the most affordable keyboard cover for your Apple tablet, but it should be well worth it. Featuring reliable scissor mechanism keys with 1mm travel and backlight, an integrated click-anywhere trackpad and variable angle adjustment, it rights all the wrongs of the Smart Keyboard Folio for the iPad Pro.

Apple writes:

Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically to iPad Pro, putting the beautiful Multi-Touch screen up on display with a floating cantilevered design for smooth adjustments of the viewing angle up to 130 degrees.

As was discovered recently, the new iPad Pro features the hardware microphone disconnect which physically disconnects the tablet’s microphones when the Magic Keyboard is attached and closed, preventing any audio data from being compromised.

The full-size keyboard attaches magnetically to your iPad Pro via the Smart Connector and includes a USBC port so you can both charge your iPad Pro and use the iPad Pro’s USB-C port for data transfer. The keyboard folds into a case to provide front and back protection for the tablet.

Pricing and availability

The Magic Keyboard is available to pre-order now from Apple.com with keyboard layouts for over 30 languages, including simplified Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. The accessory is compatible with the third and fourth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the first and second-generation 11-inch iPad Pros.

It’s priced at $299 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $349 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

The Magic Keyboard will begin arriving to customers next week and will be available in select Apple Stores and also through select Apple Authorized Resellers. The accessory is also available to college students in the United States at $279 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $329 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro via Apple’s online store for education customers.
