This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features an app to help you learn new languages, a refreshed weather client and a sharp-looking calendar app. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.
ABC Five
Have you ever wanted to learn a new language but didn’t think you had the time or patience to go through a whole program? You may want to check out ABC Five. This app promises to help you learn a foreign language by teaching you 5 new words per day. That’s 35 new words per week, 150 per month, and 1,825 per year. There are drills and games, smart notifications and more to help cement the words in your vocabulary. Yes, there’s a monthly subscription, but for the price of Netflix, you can really learn a new language.
Weather Up
The popular app Weather Atlas has been rebranded as Weather Up, and has essentially been rewritten. Thus we thought it was a great time to point to the app for those who are not familiar with it and in the market for a new weather client. Features include live weather map with radar, clouds and more, an easy-to-read UI, a Notification Center widget, hourly and 10 day forecasts, and event forecasting.
Minimal Calendar
Looking for a new calendar app? Check out Minimal Calendar. It has a beautiful design that reminds a lot of Apple’s own News and Music apps, a minimal UI, easy events, helpful reminders, quick editing and support for all the major calendar services (Google, Exchange, iCloud, etc.). There’s nothing really groundbreaking here, but again it’s worth a look if you’re in the market.
Black Paradox
Play as Black Paradox, a bounty hunter capable of traveling through time by manipulating energy produced by black holes. Help him defeat the Hellraisers and its 7 leaders, the most ruthless criminal organization in the galaxy. Use hordes of different weapon, upgrades and drones to succeed in your quest. Features include 15+ weapons, 7 deadly bosses, amazing pixel art and an awesome synth-wave soundtrack.
Rocket Void
Prefer something a little more fast-paced and twitchy? Check out Rocket Void. This endless runner (?) tasks you with guiding your rocket through rings as fast as you can in order to post a top score. The game has limited levels, amazing color themes, and…that’s about it. Very simple and straight-forward.
