What we didn’t see at Apple’s iPad Pro and Mac event

During the past two months, Apple has substantially refreshed its iPhone, iPad Pro, and Mac lineups. Couple this with the earlier updates to the budget iPad and MacBook Pro, and 2018 turned out to be a great year for hardware refreshes. Here’s the likely status of Apple’s products that weren’t updated during this year.

Macs

The regular iMac hasn’t been updated since June 2017. Last December, the iMac Pro arrived. Meanwhile, with today’s launch of the 2018 MacBook Air, the MacBook becomes the oldest laptop in Apple’s toolbox. The 12-inch MacBook was last updated in June 2017.

All three lineups could see minor internal updates arrive in the coming weeks by way of a press release. Otherwise, we might not see changes until mid-2019.

As previously announced, the Mac Pro, which was first released in 2013, is expected to get a significant update sometime in the new year.

Apple TV

Most likely, the next Apple TV will be revealed when the company officially announces its long-rumored TV streaming service. The Apple TV was last updated about a year ago when a 4K model was released.

Audio

We didn’t see new AirPods announced this year or a budget HomePod. Both products were rumored, and at one point, expected to launch this fall.  We’ll probably have to wait until next year for both.

AirPower

Is the AirPower still a product? Only Apple knows for sure. What we do know is that Apple announced this wireless charging pad in September 2017 and it remains missing in action nearly 14 months later.

iPad mini

Finally, just weeks ago, it looked like Apple was prepping to release the first new iPad mini in three years. That didn’t happen at today’s event, but it could still occur soon. In the meantime, the iPad mini 4 remains on the market.
