SlideToUnlockX brings the classic ‘slide to unlock’ to iOS 10

If you’ve got nostalgia for the good old days when you would use ‘slide to unlock’ to access your iPhone, then you should check out a throwback jailbreak tweak dubbed SlideToUnlockX by iOS developer XCXiao.

Once you install SlideToUnlockX, you can bring this classic unlock style to your jailbroken iOS 10 iPhone or iPad and cure your nostalgia.

The Lock screen will look how it always does immediately after installation because the tweak is disabled by default. When you go into the Settings app, you’ll find a preference pane for SlideToUnlockX where you can change that, and much more:

From here, you can:

  • Toggle the tweak on or off
  • Display time in 12 or 24-hour format
  • Apply a light blur effect to the top and bottom bars
  • View the weather of your current location next to the time
  • Enable scrolling between pages on the Lock screen
  • Continue allowing ‘press to unlock’
  • Configure custom ‘slide to unlock’ text

Since a respring is required to save your settings, a button for doing so is included in the main preference pane for your convenience.

Just to give you an idea of what some of the customizations can do, we’ve tinkered with some of the settings to create the result below:

We’ve enabled the weather display, the light blur, and configured the tweak to display the time in 12-hour mode in our example. Obviously, you can choose whatever works for you in your particular case.

As far as Lock screen usage goes, you’re still required to enter a passcode or authenticate with Touch ID to unlock your device after you slide the bar at the bottom of the Lock screen, so the tweak doesn’t reduce your security.

Even if you like the speed and convenience of the new ‘press to unlock,’ you can opt to continue using this functionality while still having the legacy slide to unlock interface.

Because SlideToUnlockX is a cosmetic tweak, it’s not for everyone. Going back to an older interface may also seem polarizing to a vast majority of users who’ve gotten used to the new interface

SlideToUnlockX appears to be well-designed and works exactly as advertised, so if you want the slide to unlock function back on your jailbroken iOS 10 device, you can grab this tweak from Cydia’s BigBoss repository for just $0.99.
