Getting too many podcast notifications on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac? Learn how to turn off alerts for specific podcast shows without unfollowing or unsubscribing from them. We’ll also explain how to turn off all notifications for the entire Podcasts app and share what to do if you rely on third-party apps.
There is a podcast I have been listening to for almost a decade, but its creator only releases new episodes every few months! Therefore, it’s important for me to keep its notification on so I don’t miss the new episodes.
On the other hand, several shows publish new episodes daily, or even multiple times a day. Even if you love this podcast, a bevy of notifications collectively can get highly disturbing.
The crux of the matter is that some of these notifications are much more hotly anticipated (e.g., surprise releases) than others (daily shows), which means neither leaving all podcast notifications activated nor fully switching them off is going to genuinely cut the mustard for most users.
So, in the interest of a tidy Notification Center and minimal disturbance, here’s how to remain in control of podcast notifications by toggling off the ones that have been bugging you for too long.
Turn off notifications for specific podcast shows
- Open the Apple Podcasts app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Library > Shows to see your subscribed or followed shows. From there, tap the show that’s bombarding you with notifications.
- Tap the three dots icon from the top and choose Settings.
- Turn off the switch next to Notifications.
You’ll no longer receive notifications from this show.
Turn off all notifications from the Podcasts app in one go
Flatly turning off all notifications in your Podcasts app is an easy way to cope with the barrage of new episode reminders popping up day in and day out. So, if you don’t want to get alerted to even a single new podcast show, here’s how to nuke them all.
- Open iPhone or iPad Settings and tap Notifications.
- Find Podcasts in the list of apps and tap it.
- Turn off the switch for Allow Notifications, and you’ll no longer get even a single alert from this app.
If you use third-party podcast apps on iPhone
While this tutorial is focused on the Apple Podcasts app, I can understand you might also use other highly-rated podcast apps like Overcast or Spotify alongside it.
If you’re getting too many alerts from these apps, go to the podcast show page inside these apps and look for a notification icon or option.
- Overcast: Tap the gear settings icon > Notifications, and disable alerts for your followed shows.
- Spotify: Access the show’s page, scroll to the top, and tap the green notification icon.
Alternatively, you can turn off all notifications for these apps in iPhone Settings > Notifications.
Turn off podcasts notifications on Mac
macOS offers an easy way to turn off notifications for your followed shows from a single convenient spot.
1) Open the Podcasts app on your Mac and click Podcasts > Notifications from the top menu bar.
2) Turn off the switch next to the shows and click OK.
