Following a major update to Amazon’s video-streaming client for iOS which now allows offline playback for Prime movies and television shows, the online retail giant today gave its Prime Music app a little love, too.
The new Amazon Prime Music 5.0 for iOS introduces curated collections featuring hand-picked music, search suggestions to make music discovery even easier, a brand new sleep timer feature and more.
Sleep timer, Spotlight and more
The sleep timer function is pretty useful as it allows those who stream their music from Amazon to tell the app to stop playing music after a certain amount of time. For instance, you could hit the bed and set it to stop playback automatically after an hour to tuck you in at night.
Pages for albums, playlists, artists and genres on iPads have been refreshed and both iPhone and iPad users can now take advantage of search suggestions to surface music they might like based on their search query and listening history.
Amazon Prime Music 5.0 changelog
Here’s everything that’s new in Prime Music:
- Introducing Prime Music “Spotlight”: featuring hand-picked music, exclusive content and trending artists.
- Updated iPad pages for albums, playlist, artists and genres.
- Search Suggestions.
- New sleep timer feature to stop playback automatically after a certain amount of time.
In addition to supporting Amazon’s subscription-based Prime Music, the app lets you stream music you’ve bought from Amazon from the cloud, play music already stored on your iOS device and import your iTunes music collection to the Amazon cloud by visiting www.amazon.com/musiclibrary on your PC or Mac.
Once imported, the music is available on your iOS devices and across all other Amazon Music apps. Amazon Prime members enjoy unlimited, ad-free access to over a million songs with human curated playlists and ad-free Prime Stations for free, with support for offline playback.
A 37.8-megabyte download, the app requires an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iOS 7.0 or later. Prime Music is optimized for the iPhone 5/5s/5c, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens and localized in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.
