Epicenter replaces the stock passcode interface with a beautifully animated setup that looks like it was inspired by a traditional rotary phone. Apple Campus 2 visitor’s center to feature store, cafe and rooftop observation deck

Apple's new headquarters is going to be quite the tourist attraction, reports Silicon Valley Business Journal. The site has uncovered documents, first filed with the city of Cupertino back in April, which layout the company's plans for a massive visitor's center located on the "spaceship" campus.

According to the plans, the center will include a rooftop observation deck, a cafe, and a 10,000 square-foot storefront. Apple hopes the space will "create a public face of the Apple Campus 2 that reflects Apple's business and design practices, and allows for a long-term presence in Cupertino."

Volkswagen’s first CarPlay-enabled vehicles heading to dealers

Volkswagen announced on Wednesday that its first CarPlay-enabled vehicles have begun shipping from production facilities. The German automaker says the first 2016 models featuring its new infotainment system will start landing in dealer showrooms in "late July 2015."

It's calling the new infotainment system "MIB II," and in addition to CarPlay it will also support Android Auto and MirrorLink. In the press release, Volkswagen calls the new system "one of the most comprehensive suites of connected vehicle services and features available."

Apple releases OS X El Capitan Public Beta 3

Apple on Wednesday seeded the third public beta of OS X El Capitan to testers. The release comes just two days after beta 5 of El Capitan was pushed out to developers and three weeks after the first public beta.

The new build is available to registered public testers who are already on beta 2 via the Updates section of the Mac App Store, or through the beta web portal as a standalone download. You can enroll in the program by clicking here.

Yahoo unveils LiveText, its new Snapchat-esque messaging app with text and silent video

As vaguely hinted yesterday, Yahoo held a press conference in New York City this morning to announce its brand new mobile product: a messaging app called LiveText.

The app recently soft-launched in HongKong, Taiwan and Ireland and is scheduled to roll out in more markets tomorrow, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Don't worry, we'll keep you updated as soon as it hits the US App Store.

LiveText promises to transform simple conversations into rich, fun and memorable experiences with text and live video, but without sound. It's very Snapchat-esque and you might be willing to give it a try.

Apple posts an update improving FaceTime camera compatibility on Windows for Boot Camp users

If you use Apple's Boot Camp software to run Windows and OS X in a dual-boot configuration, you're advised to install the company's new driver update for the FaceTime camera on 2015 MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.

The FaceTime Camera Driver Update, a manual download from Apple's website, improves FaceTime camera compatibility with Windows. This update is recommended for all Boot Camp users.

Breakthrough could bring 1,000 times faster flash storage with much longer lifespan to iPhone

Chip makers Intel and Micron today announced a major breakthrough in memory process technology which promises to increase the performance of NAND flash chips by a factor of 1,000.

The name of this game-changing technology is 3D Xpoint, pronounced as “crosspoint”. Not only does it enable 1,000 times faster performance, but has up to 1,000X greater endurance than NAND flash and is 10X denser than conventional memory.

By comparison, today's solid state drives typically offer between a hundred to up to a thousand times faster seek times versus traditional hard drive technology. Just don't count on Intel's new ultra-fast flash storage appearing in the next iPhone because a claimed logic board for an 'iPhone 6s' shows 19-nanometer flash memory chips by Toshiba.
